Kind of in the midst of planning a little road trip for next summer, could be as much as 9000 miles. Anyone know a tire for an XB that would last the whole trip? I'd like to avoid changing tires mid-trip. |

I can run that far with the Pilot Roads and, still have some miles left. This is even on a M/C that weights 300# more. I just spooned on a set of the PR 2's on my ST1300. I REALLY like them a lot, even over the 1st generation PR's. I have been running the Conti Road Attack on my 12r and have seen 7-8k miles. I will probably try the PR 2's next on the 12r since they do sooo well on the ST13. In my Tuber days, I ran the earlier versions of the PR's and was VERY happy with them from cornering, to rain, to mileage so I would expect similar performance on the XB. YRWV but this is what I have seen. In 06' I went through 3 sets of tires on the ST13. In 07' I have gone through 2 sets on the ST13 and one set on the 12r. That's the cost of having fun! Bottom line, the PR 2's should get you through a 9k mile trip if, you don't abuse them on the straights with your right hand. Neil S. |

A set of Scorpion Syncs could probably do it |

Metzeler Roadtec Z6's have seen as many as 8000 corner-carving miles on my XB12R. Excellent wet traction as well. |

Dunlop D220's have been brought up here on occasion with good remarks. |

I'm on my sixth set of Continental Road Attacks. I average around 10-12K per set. I could probably squeeze a few more out of them, especially the front. They stick well, and do well in wet weather. My .02 |

The Pirelli Diablo Stradas are another good long distance tire, with excellent handling. At this point in time, however, I think I would chose the Michelin Pilot Road 2's mentioned above. I say that because they are the most recent design, combining a harder center for mileage, a soft side compound for grip, and excellent wet weather performance. These tires have gotten rave reviews in the moto-mags. Sounds like just the ticket for a Buell. |

My S3T has 7500 on the Scorpion syncs. The rear is pretty much shot however. I'm going to go with Pilot Road 2s for the next set. |

I hated my D220 rear, FWIW. Took forever to warm up and were postively dangerous while waiting, did not last nearly as long as something like a Z6, and failed in fairly sudden fashion (long strip of rubber peeled down the middle and exposed threads). If it stuck better then an MeZ6 when it (finally) warmed up, I couldn't tell (but it was on a Cyclone, where both tires are probably largely overkill). |

Another vote for Metzeler Roadtec Z6's. Good performance (for me) and great wear. |

I ran 2 sets of D-220s on my Tuber... That being said, I wouldn't put another Dunslop on either of my Buells if there were giving them away!!! You can qoute me on that!!! (Message edited by Paint shaker on November 07, 2007) |

Looking for some high-mileage tires... I have a set of Diablos with about 8000 miles on them, they're your's if you pay shipping. |

The Pirelli Diablo Stradas are another good long distance tire, with excellent handling. I really did not like the Diablo Stradas. The front tire profile was the worst. The tire followed grooves on the road like a Bias-Ply Tire and would slip on tar strips pretty bad. As for the rear tires, they were fine for a Sport Touring tire. They lasted 20% longer than the OEM D616. Maybe a Corsa front tire with a strada rear would work out better. Jlnance ran Continental Road-Attacks on his trip around the country. That was almost 8000 miles and the tires are still on the bike. I never ran the Road-Attacks, but the Sport-Attacks stuck like glue. Tire life was pretty bad though, 50% of the Stradas. |

I've been pleased with the road attacks. With 8000 miles, you can still read the Conti logo stamped onto the front: The rear is much more worn, but it's not dead yet:

My last set of Pirelli Diablo Corsa III's were good for 10,000 miles. That included a trip to Deal's Gap and Virginia to the tune of 2500 miles. |

Thanks guys. I may give the Pilot Road 2's a try. My trip is going to start in New York, hoping to make it to California, and hit as many points in between as I can. I'm already going to have to do an oil change at some point, so I'd like to avoid having to get tires done as well. |

Jlnance, nice to see those pics. I've got about 7500 miles on mine, and the rear tread is "smearing" together like yours... I thought maybe it was just me. I'd heard the Conti's were supposed to get great mileage... maybe not quite so great after all... more like average, based on the other numbers I'm seeing. I doubt they'll see 10k. No stunts either, just straight up street riding, with the occasional hard acceleration thrown in. ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on November 08, 2007) |

Diablo Stradas do big miles, no one can take that from them. The only downside is they struggle to hold on a full lean ad get a bit lively. That being said they are a sport touring tyre so you have to expect to give away something when you get twice the mileage. |

Nance's tires currently have closer to 8500 miles on them, and they're holding up fine:

I've dragged the pegs of an SCG on MEZ6's. They have 5K miles on them right now and I'm sure I'll get another 5K. |

I have heard great things about the Pilot Road 2s. They have a harder compound in the middle, but does anyone know how soft the rubber is on the edges (comparable to the Pilot Powers maybe?) Apparently, they have great grip--enough for anything short of the track. I plan to get a set for the 1125r when the Corsa IIIs get worn out. It's just plain frustrating when I have 1,500 miles on a M3 rear and I can tell it is already flattening out. (Message edited by fresnobuell on November 10, 2007) |

Great topic. What are the facts about the Dunlop D616's that come on the Ulysses. I am looking for something that will be good on the cold streets this winter and get some good mileage. |

I just ordered a Pilot Road 2 today and it should arrive by Monday. If you're still shopping for tires I'll let you know how it does short term. |
