I've poked around in the KV, but nothing. Can anyone help me figure out how to re-route my vent tubes? I've heard much about it but never seen/heard exactly what to do and what's needed. | ||

I'm sure someone will find a flaw, but here's what I did.   Use a tee here and one to tee in the tranny line.  Made a catch can out of 1-1/4" CPVC pipe.  Installed a breather on top. Ran the line in near the bottom and back so fluids run to the front of the pipe.  Ran a tube from the bottom front that can be accessed with the tail section on for draining.  I drilled and tapped the holes into the plastic, then added sealant to be safe. I purchased an Ohlins shock so I used the stock shock reservoir bracket to hold the catch can. Gross, but effective. IMO of course. Also since it's a race bike I don't have the rear seat on, leaving room for the breather. | ||

I am thinking of doing some similar. I think I am going to go the smaller route though. Your catch can (trying not to criticize) is way to big, and to far away to be functional. I think you would barely ever fill up the hoses leading to it. Anyways a good question to ask would be how much fluid are people getting in the catch can, and the interval they drain it. I am thinking of buying a cheap fuel filter that has the correct nipple configuration. I believe a few people have done this that I have seen floating around the board. Pictures???? Hell my cheap friend made one for his car out of a plastic peanut butter container hahaha | ||

"I'm sure someone will find a flaw..." Well... if you connected the engine breather line to the transmission vent line, you could potentially be forcing water vapor and spooge (emulsified oil and water) into the transmission, especially with the catch-can mounted so high. | ||

I basically did the same thing pictured above (not connected to the trany vent line). Mine goes up, then back down to prevent any spooge from going back up the line. I also used a Y fitting instead of a T fitting to connect the lines. This way spooge from one cylinder isn't pushed it into the other. If you think a PB container is cheep, I used a Mrs. Dash container (only because the PB container was too big). The paper filtering media used to filter fuel (in the filter I got) didn't let air pass through it so easily when it got spooged. Try it and see. Maybe it was just the filter I used, but it didn't take much effort or money ($5) to fabricate a properly vented catch-can with an oil separator inside and a drain on the bottom. | ||

Size of the catch can is dictated by race rules. Actually, may be a little small. I had one mounted even further back last year and I never had a problem with getting the fluid to collect in the can. The breather has no paper element. It's stainless steel screen. | ||

A the risk of appearing to be overly conventional, may I point out that one of our earliest sponsors, KD Fabrications, makers of the redoubtable Drummer muffler, make a very attractive and effective catch can, and their site has all the instructions you need to install it. It fits very neatly next to the oil cooler, and takes about an hour to install, if I recall correctly.
