Since we are on the topic of tires, what tires are everyone using for combination street/track? I'd like to get 5k miles out of a set, but more would be better...as long as they can handle the abuses of the track.
I've used the Continental ContiForce Sports and Michelin Pilot Powers in the past...any suggestions? |

I've got 800 of slab miles on a Tomahawk with NO flat spot. I've not gotten that on any other tire yet.
I though they all looked like |_| after 500 miles. |

What I like about my Stradas is I was daydreaming and forgot to brake getting on an off-ramp. I grabbed all the brakes I could while leaned way over and the bike simply slowed down and never gave the slightest hint it wanted to stand up. I almost sucked the entire cover off my seat. Disclaimer: just 'cause I got away with it doesn't mean you'll do the same. |

I just got 1800 miles out of a Strada rear.
I don't think I'll be trying another. |

1324... Scorpion Syncs will get you about 5k out of a rear on a 9, and have enough grip to scrape a peg on a lightning.
MeZ6's are probably fairly similar.
Both great tires. |

Cool, thanks for the input. Will they stand up to the heat and abuse of the track? The reviews here and on other sites is pretty positive. |

Trojan indicated that under hard use, the big tread blocks of the Syncs will get squirmy when they start getting really hot.
I did one track day with a set, I was one of the faster novice riders, on a hot day, and had nothing but perfectly solid grip all day long.
But I am just a novice... I think I touched a peg down once during the day (I can do it be leaning the wrong way any time I want... but this was the first time I did it the "honest" way).
So for up to and including mid level intermediates on track days, I think the syncs are 100% capable.
CeeJay was in front of me (one of the fastest novice riders) and was running MeZ6's. He was also very happy with his tires.
CeeJay liked the MeZ6's better then syncs (he had tried both) on his 9r. I liked the syncs better then the MeZ6's (had them on the tuber, have had nothing but syncs on the XB).
The syncs do remarkably well if you find youself on grass / gravel / mud. The Z6's wear pretty well. I think both are probably *great* tires. |

I found the same, although I had no idea it was due to the big tread blocks, I just thought it was an inferior tire.
By the way, this wasn't on the track. |

Although, I have no personal experience with the Michelin Pilot ROAD tires, I hear they are top notch. Plenty of grip due to the dual compound (soft rubber on edges, harder stuff in the middle), so you aren't sacrificing too much. These are made for the rider that spends most of the time on the streets and some time canyon carving--I venture to say, this is most of us.
I would bet big money that these will last at least 5K.
I am impressed and currently use) with the Metzler M3s, which have more life than the older model M1. I got 4,500 on my last M3 rear--probably could have ekked 5,000 out of it, but a screw hastened the tire change. The M3 would be considered a true sport tire in comparison to the Pilot Road. |

1324, re-reading your post, you are looking for a road/track tire. I would suggest the M3 in that case. |

The M3 has been very solid under my X1, cold, hot, rough, smooth, it's been very versitile. under most other aplications I wouldn't rave over the Metz, but on this bike, and this tire, I like-em. And by the way I own and operate a m/c tire store! |

I have gotten in the 7,000- 8,000 mile range with Bridgestone BT020s. This is mostly flatland riding with few curves. |

I just put my new Michelin Pilot Road 2 on today. Got to ride to work on it but feels pretty good so far. Seems to stick as well as my Pilot Power. I'll hit some twisties this weekend to work the sides more. Very happy so far. |
