I had my kickstand pivot bolt break in half today. I ordered a replacement from American Sport Bike. Anyone else have this issue with an 06' xb12r? Should I replace my kickstand bracket bolts too? Tim (Message edited by roadkingtrax on November 06, 2007) | ||

I'd replace the bracket bolts too if it was me. If there was that much stress on the pivot it just stands to reason that the strain was also on the mounting bolts and it doesn't cost that much more to swap them out at the same time. | ||

I have plans to do that as well, Going to get some Grade 8 bolts and change them out. I hope that I can do it with the exhaust can on. The few problems I have had with this motorcycle are starting to give me a bad impression. Hope this will be the end of them. I'm getting sick of lemonade... Tim | ||

I had mine snap too. 04 XB12R Had it replaced under warranty. Got to work one day and went to put the kickstand down, only to realize that there wasn't one there. Call the dealership, they told me to bring it down and they would replace it. It was in the shop for less than 1/2 hour. | ||

04 XB12R, same issue. With me, it was caused by the vibration slowly backing out the pivot bolt, and it sheared off at the shoulder. So, I replaced the pivot bolt (bought two of them) and used red Loc-tite on it. Been 30,000+ miles since that incident and no issues. Mounting bracket bolts have not been a problem. | ||

Try one of these. Shoulder screw, 3/8-16 with .5" x 1" shoulder. Without the pin on the tip it will eliminate the tendency to dangle and provide a positive up or down action. Use high temp marine grease with locktite.  | ||

I've got an '06 XB9SX, and I had mine creep out, but I caught it, tightened it up, and when I had my next service, I told the dealer. They said that they Loc-Tited it, and that should be good enough. Now, I could've done that myself, I guess I expected them to do the service kit on it. Should I be concerned with the potential of my bolt having been "stressed" by backing out part way, and potentially failing without warning? I'd hate to walk into the garage one AM to see her laying on her side, wallowing in her own fluids, screaming "Help! I've fallen, and I can't get up!" | ||

Bombero, It is a personal decision whether or not you want to buy the new pin that replaces that kickstand bolt. Trade off the cost of potential damage if it does break versus a little bit now for extra insurance. I am convinced despite the problems that Buell have, they are a good motorcycle, we just have to fix what the factory wont. Like an AMF Harley in the 1970s. I firmly believe that when you let the threaded portion back out that the shear stresses placed on it will fatigue it to a failure point.
