Yep... I posted this a month or so ago. But I Have since taken my XB9R out for some longer rides and even with a jell pad, I feel like I have been violated. So I want looking for Road Kings and the like. I can't get into get into them. I an seriously thinking of a ST1300 or a FJR1300. Thoughts?

How far are you riding? Many people complain about the stock 12s seat, but honesty, I don't have a problem. I've been in the saddle for about 3 hours (between gas stops) and I had no problem. Maybe I'm the 1% of the population that Buell designed the seats for??

Have you tried a Corbin? MANY people seem to love them.

When I rode my X-1 to the Moto GP last summer, I found it helpful to stop every 75mi or so. Potty break, water, maybe a cig (for those who smoke), walk around a little. Also allowed a chance to chat w/passersby. Got to meet lotsa of nice folks that way. Of course, the second 75mi leg meant adding fuel to the above list.

Can't comment on an XB yet, as the TT I ordered isn't here yet. But that's another story.

I actually bought a 9 seat for my 12s. It helped a bit. I never really had any issues with my 12s seat, but I cant say the same for my girlfriend. She loves the softer, thicker taller 9 seat. I am good either way though. I have been on long trips with both seats and with just me, I prefer the stock 12s seat too.
My ol man has a new 08 FJR1300 on order, supposed to be here this month but coming from YAMAHA, probably a couple out still. Obviously it will be a heck of a lot more comfy but about 1/100th the fun, I think. I cant say not knowing though.

on an XBR I'd suggest some Heli bars, maybe a better seat, and some footpegs from an "S" model, they're one inch lower.

Myself, I've been riding the stock seat, controls, and pegs the whole time and as long as I stretch a bit at fuel stops I feel just fine doing 400-500 miles in a day.

If you really want a new bike, my suggestion would be a Ulysses, or if you want to go off-brand then I'd go with the new Kawasaki Concourse 14. Saw one on Ortega Hwy on Sunday, it's better looking in person than in the magazines.

I haven't seen the new concourse in person yet, but the FJR is nice. Not exactly my speed, but my wife refuses to sit on the back of my 9s with the 12s seat (can't say I blame her), and it is looking pretty appealing. I have a feeling the next addition to my stable will be something better for two up riding, maybe a ST.

The Buell Select touring seat for the XBR is worlds better than the stock one on my 2004 XB12R.

And I'm still selling my 05 FJR1300 if anyone is interested, and I'll take a Buell Select seat on partial trade ;)

Well the XB*R is probably the least desirable of the Buells for long distance riding. It's a corner carver, and comfort is secondary to that. An S or better yet a Uly will work much better.

I ride both a Uly('06 standard seat) and an FJR('06 standard seat) and find it possible to do 12 hour days on either bike.

The better weather/wind protection make the FJR my ride of choice for the super slab. On the twisty back roads the fun factor of the ULY is my tool of choice.... YMMV The Uly is also a very comf ride for a pillion partner.

FJR seems to be bullet proof! If you ride hard you'll want to improve the rear damper with a Wilber or Penske. Pre '06 FJR's have a heat issue.... so do all Uly's!

Bikes are just like people..... none are perfect. Pick the tool that best suits your need, be happy, and ride on!

I am considering an S3 again, to fill in the 2-up gap, but there would be a considerable about of cash involved also.

At the end of August, I took my 03 XB9S from east coast to west, from Ocean City, MD to Santa Monica, CA and back in 2 weeks.

I have a Corbin Gunfighter. I absolutely swear by this seat. I felt better after running the country than I did on a 3 hour trip with the stock seat.

Do you have a pic of your bike with a good view of the seat? I might like the gunfighter, but I don't like the bigger one...the main reason why I haven't even thought of a Corbin yet.

I went from LA to Monterrey in one day on my XB9R. That's 800 or so miles round trip. I had god motivation though. It was for the 1125R launch party.

Other than that, this: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/681 7/315698.html?1193765376
describes long days in the saddle. But that is when my butt was 10 year younger and on a tuber.

880 miles in one shot (on a uly). Stopped for gas and lunch. About 13 hours, would have been less with heated gear-it was october-couldn't have done it with out heated grips as it was flurrying in Illinois. On my way back from the dragon.

Did a Saddlesore and a couple of Bun Burners last season. Next season I'll be going for a Bun Burner Gold.

Wendover is in Nevada... it's the last town before you cross the Nevada/Utah border. I know that because I've spent time there at the Red Garter Saloon on two different transcontinental crossings...

Actually, when you're heading west on I-80 at night its reminiscent of the poster from "Close Encounter of the Third Kind." There is no place more desolate than the great salt desert in Utah. As you ride through the pitch dark you suddenly see the western sky all lit up. When you finally get to Wendover you see it's due to all the NEON lit casinos everywhere. That's how you KNOW you're in Nevada...
