So I picked up a new bike (had a Blast, now to the 9R) and I've got a few questions. I tried to find some answers in the KV, but came up a little short. First off it's got the race ECM, D&D exhaust, and K&N filter with open airbox. Have no problems with how it runs now, but occasionally there's some popping on deceleration. The headlights look kind of foggy behind the lenses, is there a way I can pull them apart easily to see if the chrome is peeling? (heard this may be a problem) After that I'd like to wire it so that both headlights are on for the dim light, is this possible? Previous owner got the set of plastic thats on it now from a wrecked bike (still have original white) but they sanded it to get scratches out and put on some stickers. it came back naturally to a semi-gloss shine everywhere but under the stickers that i removed. What's the best way to polish it out? I've got a winter coming and plenty of time, I want the whole thing to shine!! Lastly, there's some bolts and such I'd like to change out since it's got bar end mirrors and a few other little things. Anyone know of a source for "spiked" nuts? I swear I've seen them somewhere, but internet searches are leaving me with alcohol infused cashews. Sorry for the novel, but thanks for the help!   | ||

I would use a smoked blinker lense in dark grey from a harley touring bike. Just drill and tap and it bolts right up, very cheap. As for the popping on decel....they all seem to do that  | ||

Ahh, I actually looked at that very bike before I bought mine. You got it from a guy that works at Rocky Mountain HD, right? Since, I've actually ridden your bike, heh heh  The headlights are super easy to clean. Take the nose fairing off, and the headlights come off with 4 #2 Phillips screws each. Unplug the two wires on the back, then you can take the lens off with a couple more screws. While I had mine apart, I noticed it is possible to ditch the "low beam" plate to make your bike have two high beams with the removal of one screw.  Mine does the decel popping a little with the factory race kit. | ||

the having both lights on while on dim would be the same as if you just simply turned the highbeam on. both lights are on then. pull the front fairing plastic off and you should easily be able to see how the headlights come apart. just a few screws to each | ||

Yup, MTG, She's the one! I'll have to tear them apart and make sure everything is kosher in the lights. And I'll also look into that two highs idea. Figured the popping thing was on all, but wanted to make sure. and slicker, thats a neat idea for a cover. The shapes of the reflectors is different between the low and high beams, it is not just the diffuser plate that differentiates them. As has already been said, running your high beam illuminates both bulbs. Be careful cleaning the reflectors themselves, the coating is very easily damaged by chemicals and is easily scratched. Be sure to check for little black spots in the reflective coating. Those are the beginnings of the coating failing. Once the coating is gone the bulb will melt the black plastic underneath it. When the headlight looks brown I would bet that the reflector is ready to be replaced. | ||

Glitch, thanks for the link, though at 14 bucks per nut I might be changing my mind! Jumpin, you can let him know it went to a good home. And I get the strong feeling he'll have an 1125 before too long. I hope to have one myself after I finish up this round of college. | ||

Headlights are a problem, my low beam lost all its reflectiveness, glued aluminium foil in the housing to get a wof and to be able to see at night on low beam. Now considering another high beam assembly as light pattern is not pinpoint with the deflector removed The high beam should be OK but will be trying it anyway. Popping on decell, seem to recall reading a post on spark plug gap and it does make a difference, recommended 30 to 35 thou. Happy riding. |
