Anyone ever experience a Check Engine after a gas up? I had one, and restarted and after 50 miles never came back. Vent maybe? Tim | ||

I know you are in AZ but do you have a California bike? If so, you likely just overfilled the gas tank. Fills the carbon cannister and the bike runs too rich for a while. Shouldn't have hurt anything at all if that's what happened. | ||

I have a direct vent to atmosphere, pretty sure it is an AZ bike. I know I filled it up pretty far. I'm used to my HD tank. I will monitor it some more. I was curious to see if others may of had that problem. How is the vent monitored by the ECM? I can't seem to figure that out. (Message edited by roadkingtrax on October 14, 2007) | ||

To my knowledge the vent is not monitored by the ECM. If the lights on I would pull the code and see what it is. | ||

I was talking about Cali bikes only, as they are not vented to atmosphere. The ECM does not monitor the tank vent but Cali bikes will pull the excess fuel from the carbon cannister and run way rich for a few minutes. If you have a non Cali bike then like Cataract said you need to pull the trouble codes to see what's going on. | ||

By the way, on the Cali R models the cannister is (nicely!) hidden in the tail body and hard to find. On the other models they hang on the left side of the motor. If you are unsure trace your vent line to see if it runs to a cannister under the seat. Hope you find your problem. | ||

I have a Cali 03 XB9R, It will do the same ( check engine light comes on ) if I over fill the tank. It is more frequent if the frame is hot when over filled. It will also run rough and stumble for a few minutes until it burns off the excess fuel. Its not a big problem, just don't over fill the tank. | ||

I will try to pull the code and report back. My vent line hangs down the frame, so I'm going to atmosphere. Hope it is just a anomaly. Tim | ||

Got a code 21, checked the Exhaust Actuator. Adjusted it per the shop manual. Doesn't seem like it rotates very much, off-on-off like it says, only moves 20-30 degrees, will "whir" then move like it is catching up. Is this normal operation? BTW this bike has a 4/06 Manufacture date..servo recall? Tim (Message edited by roadkingtrax on October 14, 2007) | ||

Adding this for any future searches,...new exhaust servo fixed my problem...let's hope it will be the last for a while. |
