Hello all,

I am new to the board, been lurking for a few months. I ordered a 08 Scg last week and it should be in soon. I am wondering what all I am supposed to be getting with this purchase. Thank you for the info.

You'll get whatever you haggled for ;) Generally you'll get a free year with BRAG (or whatever it is now). Beyond that, you need to haggle.

My dealer gave me a free Harley shirt! In the mail I also received a pretty nice wooden plaque with a picture of my XB12Ss with an inscription implying the bike was built just for me!

Okay, I know that's just marketing... my dealer actually had to swap the black one he had on the floor with another dealer who had the color I wanted...

I got a $130 credit towards a helmet of my choice (I chose Arai). Tool kit. Owners manual. Two year warranty. Walk around. Offers for many different types of insurance. I took the "gap" insurance while the bike is on the loan.

First, your profile name is AWESOME! I love Conan the Barbarian!

Anyway, what our sales staff should be doing (and I know that Mutation_Racer does this) is show the customer what he is investing in.

Now, we show customers how they invest in the dealership. You may get a whole lot of money off of the price of the bike at other places, but look around and see if there's a lack of upkeep or training. You'd be hard pressed to see that at our store.

We show the customer what they are paying for in so far as merchandise & service, and assure them that we try to accommodate them to the best of our ability. Sometimes we can not, but try to bridge those gaps as they arise. We want to show all of our customers that we not only sell motorcycles (yes, the dreaded H-D brand too : )), but we service & accessorize them and the owner, too.

It is a strange thing to sell a dealership with every bike sale, but that's what we try to do to keep all of our customers coming back. There's always something new that we can show them.

Chris

I got a 3 month delayed delivery and a huge smile when it finally arrived. But this was in the days when Buells were rare.

You should get the owner manual, tool kit, suspension adjustment and a quick demonstration of checking oils, basic maintenace etc.

PAY EXTRA FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!
I bought my bike new with 18 miles on it and the extra 1000 dollars has paid itself back 3 times in the last year.
These things tend to head south pretty fast after about 10k if you dont baby them in that first 10k miles.

Adding to what they said, I got 10% discount on accessory purchases for a year. And I got a really fun test ride, not to mention a good Buell riding mate, and Brad hooked me up with the BadWeb which led me to you fine folks!

I DIDN'T get to ring the bell. : |

I did get ushered out of the back of the store with my bike.

I think it's more respectable to buy condoms than Buells at that dealership.

I know this will be a foreign experience for most, but when I got mine, the entire store came out to greet me (~45 people). I got a goody bag from each department head

Service: HD tire gauge, kickstand puck, full novus plastic cleaning kit.

Sales: a few bottles of "Official HD water" (I kid you not), a cool HD road atlas, lunch for buddy and I, multi 30% off swag coupons

Tshirt department: 2 shirts for me, and my buddy, another tire gauge, key chain, a bottle of HD bike wash, several Buell patches/pin, etc...

In the end I had filled up a decent sized retail bag.

Funny part is a few days later I got hand written letters from the department heads thanking me for my purchase. They included coupons for more free swag.

Now since that time the dealer has been sold, and things are not quite the same.

I still get a present on my birthday (tshirt), but I have heard a lot of the other goodies have vanished for new customers.

I got promised the world as far as maintenance and upkeep...only to pass the place 2 weeks later actually seeing them remove the Buell sign.... They sold me their last Buell and now they were done with them!Suffice to say...I kept it in awesome condition so I didn't take that much of a loss when I sold it a year later for $8,600.00 whew....

I got the first service free. The suspension set up performed on my bike so it fit my weight. Met the service manager and their resident Buell expert (Steve Ford who posts here). A bag full of HD and Buell swag, t-shirts stickers etc. Coupons for discounts, and contact list for the dealership... Even a phone call after a few hours and my ride home; just to make sure everything was ok.

It is funny when I read all of these posts about lousy dealers. I must have been really lucky. They will probably get an 1125 out of me as a result of their prior performance.

My bike came with the standard stuff - tool kit, manual, etc. They also wanted to give me a parts catalogue, but they only had the HD ones and there was no Buell stuff in there so I didn't take.

At the time (last Dec.) they were offering free 1000kmi service for new bike purchases. I wasn't taking delivery until Spring, but I got them to throw that in as well.

What I *didn't* get was actually a good thing, too. I traded in my cafe racered Sportster. I knew it would be a bitch to sell since few want that style of bike. They gave me a fair price on it, and took it off my hands as down payment in December.

Guess what - 10 months later and my old bike is STILL on the floor. They just lowered the price to within $400 of what they gave me for it (counting the tax benefit).

AND they held onto my Buell all winter until my tax return showed up so I didn't have to take out a loan. Free storage for 4 months - can't beat it.

I DIDN'T get goody bags, I DID pay MSRP, but I think all things considered I got a pretty good deal.

My dealer mailed me a box of brownies. I also got a thank you note from my salesman and I got a coupon in the mail for a free gift for my purchase. It is redeemable at the motorclothes counter but I have no idea what it is. The brownies were damn good.

Bought my 05 CityX at Rocket HD/Buell in Huntsville, AL.

I got to ring the bell... And a t-shirt that said that I bought a harley...

I asked about suspension setups, the sale's person said "I have no idea, I don't think you can adjust them."

I saw the sale's person about 2 months later at a local bike night... He asked me what kind of bike it was (I am NOT kidding here).
His words: "Hey, is that one of those new street fighter bikes?"
My face:

I then said "Do you even remember selling me this bike 2 months ago???"
He immediately turned around and starting talking to someone else, as though our conversation never even happened.

Nowadays, Rocket HD/Buell will not even order buell parts unless you leave your bike with them.

I do hope you get much more from your dealer.

I got the owher's manual, a Harley T-shirt, two thank you cards, one from the salesman and one from the owner and a one-year membership to the local HOG chapter.

They've also been very good to me whenever I show up and let me park my Blast right next to the Glides and Dynas and Softies.

Rocket HD pulled a full on Sybil. I was originally looking to buy from them. The sales guy I was talking to abruptly "retired". I asked who was the new Buell sales guy. I was told "I don't guess anyone specifically. We don't sell that many."

You don't say.

I think it has been covered but I would expect a walk around the bike, the owners manual, tool kit, a talk about the suspension and the keys of course. Anything else you get really depends on the dealership. They will probably give you the extended warranty pitch and whatever else the dealership does for service.

I got the usual stuff from Pikes Peak HD, a 30 minute pitch on several extended warranty programs, which I passed on. It was explained to me that if I got one of the warranty programs my bike will be serviced before people without the program (that is BS in my book). Maybe it is a HD thing.
An "official" HD Tee shirt was NOT offered but I did get a Buell hat, only because the salesman was a Buell guy. He quit soon after. They did not "go over" the bike but it was not needed.
I got the BRAG membership a month before BRAG was discontinued and a membership in the local HOG group. I never attended a meeting or function so cannot talk to HOG being bad or good. (Ride to Eat / Eat to Ride) or is it live to ride, I cant remember.

More importantly I got a bike that made riding fun for me again.

When I bought my 76 ironhead in 1980 (New Bern NC) I got a 1/2 case of oil and a couple of filters and a bike that taught me how to do a topend job.

When I bought my 92 Evo Sporty (1992 at Laugerman's HD in PA) I got a bike that had the head covers scratched up where the factory inspection sticker was and an attitude from everyone in the shop. it was later explained to me that since I bought it through Overseas Military Car sales, they did not make money on me. I visited another dealer while I was in PA (New Castle) and saw my first Buell!!!

When I bought my 97 S1 (in 1997 at Fredrick MD) I got the BRAG membership and the biggest grin on the ride home. Everything else was a blur.

When I bought my 2004 FLHTCI and a couple of years later, my girlfriends 2007 Nightster (Outpost HD in Pueblo CO) I got a battery tender, a couple of Tee shirts, a HD catalog, and a no nonsense approach which I really liked. Since the 2007 Nightster was a surprise they helped me setup my girl for the surprise. Great HD only dealership.

Bikes I still have: 92 XLH, 96 S2T (bought used) and 2007 XB12R

I sold the 97 S1 (big mistake) and it was stolen a couple of months after. I sold the FLHTCI to buy the 96 S2T and well the 92 Sporty.... I still like it. The 76 ironhead was stolen long ago in a country far far away.

Interesting all this grinning. I have to admit my grin came on the ride home. I bough the Blast because I needed something cheap and needed a bike now (going on withdrawl for a year) and I assumed it would be a dog. I rode it all freeway home and got caught in heavy traffic up a mountain with left-lane traffic doing 80 and big semis in the slow lane creeping at 35 to 40 up the mountain.

I rolled on and paid attention to keeping up with traffic, realized the Blast was pushing 85 with no problem UP HILL and I just started grinning. I had to pull over at the hilltop in a scenic overlook just to finish laughing. I've loved it ever since.

Thank you, all, for the information. The dealer just called me to tell me its still not here. Apparently they are having trouble locating one. One being a 2008 XB12Scg. I'm not small, just like the idea of a slammed motorcycle. The weather is starting to turn cold, so I may not get a chance to ride it in the near future.
