I bought my XB9S new, now it has over 24,000 miles. It has always tracked perfectly straight, until now. For the last 1000 miles or so it feels like it wants to go left. If I take my hands of the bars it will consistently go to the left. It has never been down or been damaged. Tires are at 34 an 38 psi. Suspension is setup for my weight. Nothing seems loose. Any ideas? | ||

I think the solution is to stop riding with no hands ;) My Buell still goes like it should, but I did notice my Sportster started to want to turn right with no hands after about 12,000 miles. Never knew the cause and traded it in before it was ever a problem. | ||

I would check the tension on the head bearings as Glitch suggests. Jack front wheel off the ground, loosen lower triple clamp bolts, loosen head bearing nut, then tighten to 50 ft. lb. I would also check tire wear, wheel balance, wheel bearings, and don't overlook play in the swing arm bearings, which is occasionally the cause of "mystery' misbehavior. | ||

The tires look to be wearing evenly with plenty of tread left. I have around 2k on them. There is no play in the steering head bearing (I have re-torqued that before). I will check the Swing Arm bearings next. If I can't figure this out, I might take apart the front end and rebuild/re-torque the forks and triple. | ||

Are the forks the same height in the triple trees? Could one have slipped down? Based on my own experiments, it doesn't take more than a millimeter or two difference from one side or the other to cause what you're talking about. Otherwise, I'd also take a look at the steering-head bearing. |
