I used to be content with my bike as it was, but after going to Liberty Buell party I'm getting the same customize itch I got with my sportster, and it didn't go away until I spent a ton of money. I have some neat ideas in my head, but for one of them to work I'm going to need a single HID projector headlight that handles high and low beam. Buying the Hella 90mm bi-xenon is out of the question for the price, so I have two options: A bi-xenon conversion kit that would use the stock firebolt's headlight projector unit, or A bi-xenon projector from a car (BMW, Benz, VW, Audi, etc.) Reflective coating aside, does anyone see issues using the bi-xenon kit in the stock projector? |

You could go the cheaper route of the 90mm Hellas with the H9 and try one of the Bi-Xenon s/u's like: HID. Or just the 90mm H9. In order to really utilize a Bi-Xenon bulb, you need a lamp (reflector housing) that has the reflector set up for 2 beams like the H4 Neil S. |

CCr - the bi-xenon bulbs don't burn in two different places in the bulb like a typical H4 would. Most times the bulb actually extends and retracts to change between hi and low. Some use a retracting "spoon" the blocks the upper section of the beam. Maybe you knew that... i'm thinking getting an OE automotive setup might be the best bet though to ensure the reflector is setup correctly. |

Yeah been there know that. My point is if you don't have a reflector that can take advantage of the 2 positions of the light emitting discharge, it will not emit the correct beam for Hi or Low, depending on it's intent. One of the OEM set ups would be nice but they are usually pricey and take up too much room. While I don't have the specs at hand, the Hella bi-Xenon (which uses a shutter) seems to be sized similar to their 90mm single lamps. They may even have a 50mm model but, right now I can't get to their site. FWIW, I'm adding the 90mm H9 set up to my F-bolt. I have a little delay in doing this since I'm getting married Saturday and a few things need to be completed b4 then ;+}. Let me know if I can help with anything, this is actually the business I'm in. Time2Work Neil S. |

Neil, Hella doesn't offer a bi-xenon kit in the 50mm size. I don't know if the auto applications are all that much bigger than the Buell's. The projectors looks to be sized about the same, though it's hard to tell what the lens diameters are in a lot of them. Since I only want to run one, I'm not terribly conerned with space anyways. I know my buddy has a new GTI that he thinks uses the shutter system like the hella unit does. I'd just buy the hella one if it weren't so freakin' much dough. |
