I was looking at the Buell stuff on eBay, and found this bike...I was looking at the pics of the bike and was wondering how in the heck this bike goes anywhere since there is no sprocket at the rear wheel. Anyone help me out? I'm baffled! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Custom-Race-Exhaust -Muffler-for-Buell-XB9S-and-XB12R_W0QQcmdZViewItem QQcategoryZ35573QQihZ005QQitemZ150164589732QQrdZ1Q QsspagenameZWDVW |

I don't think its the friction drive set up, in the one pick you can see the jack shaft. I think its just not finished yet. |

there is another sprocket in front of the rear tire on the swing arm.... i believe friction drive is correct, as it looks like a black drum is connected to the sprocket just infront of the rear tire. |

The last picture is the key: You can tell there is nothing in front of the tire, so no friction drive. You can also see bolt holes in the side of the hub, where a sprocket should go.

Well, thanks Mike! I really wasn't sure but that bike looks pretty cool (Needs a different rear rim though) |

+1 Mike. Looks like he will install a sprocket and chain on an offset pulley shown in the photo Mike selected. Had me looking for a friction roller too. Like a lot of custom bikes, they aren't always finished when the photos are made. In fact, they often never get finished, do they?

I think you can see a small sprocket on the rear wheel. Chain is missing is all. |

Who cares how it goes, it's LOUD! Says so right in the add. If a little loud is good then a lot loud must be better! |

Is it just me or is that even a "real" back wheel? In some of the pictures it almost looks to be spinning and if you look through the rim (notice the axle is floating in air), whatever is behind it, is a slightly different color... photoshop maybe? |

It's either a solid "blank" or (what it looks like to me) it has a lucite or similar material disk holding the hub to the rim. Those are relatively new on the market, but I have seen them before. In fact one showed up on the TV show where they did a biker build-off type thing with metric sport bikes and cruisers. |

Guys, it's just a jackshaft with no final drive chain. There's no magic, no friction drives, and no floating wheels. To answer the original question: How in the heck does this bike move? You push it. |
