Well I decided to take off my translucent airbox cover because the scratches and swirls were looking bad, eventhough I am constantly keeping it clean with Novus 1,2 and 3 (No, not for sale, keeping in case I want to go back). So I ordered up a black airbox and blue "BUELL" lettering from Seminole and installed it on the bike. I think it look pretty good. The Blues are not a perfect match, depending on the light, but they are very close. What do you think? --Sean |

Wow guys, thanks. I had no idea the response would be this positive. I wanted to keep the Hero Blue element since it is unique to the CityX, but wanted an easier to manage airbox cover, and when I saw the 2008 Buell lettering I knew exactly the direction I was going to go. The bar end mirrors are CRG Lanesplits, from Al at American Sport Bike, of course. Last year at the BBQ I bugged him about making hardware that would allow someone to run the CRGS, but keep the hand guards and Al made it work. Here are a few pictures: Now all I am waiting for is my Drummer, but since Kevin is so backed up right now, I doubt he'll get it to me in time for the BBQ, oh well. --Sean |

Bike is looking good. I like how the mirrors look with the hand guards. Al is great, that's for sure! Chad |

Am I going to end up the lone critic? I like the airbox treatment, but I am not so keen on keeping the flyscreen. I have never understood the translucent flyscreen, it looks so strange with all the wiring harnesses visible. I have thought about putting a dark coating on the back of mine to limit it transparency. But it is a big world with many different views. |

I've got an 08 white and blue bolt. I thought about buying an extra set of black plastic and using a blue windscreen and blue lettering... I think it would look sweet with the blue wheels. |

That would look sweet with the black body work and blue rims/decals/windscreen. That's the nice thing with these things is that for a few hundred bucks, you can change the color of 'em. I say do it!! Chad |

I think the blue windscreen is a bit odd too, but overall I love the bike, and I understand your wanting to keep some hero blue. Maybe photoshop some blue wheels on there? |

Very nice! Wish I woulds though of that! I went with Orange decals on a black cover, black fly screen on my X. Love the contrast you have created. |

I think the blue transparent needs a set of black rallye stripes to carry over the black and blue theme. Great job btw. |

I like the airbox treatment, but I am not so keen on keeping the flyscreen. I have never understood the translucent flyscreen, it looks so strange with all the wiring harnesses visible. I have thought about putting a dark coating on the back of mine to limit it transparency. That was my same concern - the flyscreen looking out of place. But, the bike looks better in person, the photos don't look as good. The reason the blues are off a tad is because the blue letters have a silver backing, so if I were to paint the back of the flyscreen silver, they would be an almost perfect match. Another reason why I kept the flyscreen is because I still want it to be known as a CityX and not a regular Lightning, I didn't want to lose the CityX feel or character. That would look sweet with the black body work and blue rims/decals/windscreen. That's the nice thing with these things is that for a few hundred bucks, you can change the color of 'em. I say do it!! I thought about blue wheels, but I can't really afford to spend the money on them right now. however, I think they would tie in the flyscreen better. Maybe when I swap tires I can think about it. But, it wouldn't look as evil, hmmm... Here is the bike photoshopped (from another thread I posted a month or so ago with both versions): --Sean (Message edited by thespive on September 22, 2007) |

Maybe it's just an optical illusion but to me the blue wheels make it look a little stubby. I'm liking the black wheels more. That little touch of blue goes a long way. |

That little touch of blue goes a long way Yes. I vote to leave the wheels black too. Perhaps a blue front fender, but that's where I'd quit. |

and when I saw the 2008 Buell lettering I knew exactly the direction I was going to go. Where did you see a 2008 that was black with blue lettering? Maybe I'm blind, or dense, or both...I just looked at every model on the Buell site and didn't see any black/blue. |

I converted my Sunset Orange Ss to Black with Sunset Orange wheels a long time ago. Unfortunately, the lettering on my air box is white. I wish I could find a black airbox with Sunset Orange lettering to go with my orange wheels. That would look fantastic. Much like the fantastic bike at the top of this thread........only in black and orange. |

maybe blue wheel stripes??? Yeah, that is def something I was thinking about. Just to add a bit more flair and break up the black a bit. Sean, how do you like the traction pegs and grips? I love them, especially the grips, very comfortable for long rides (and a nice addition if you are coming from H-D 1" bars like I did) and the pegs are much more substantial than stock. I can't wait to get the feedback of everyone in person this weekend at the American Sport Bike BBQ, maybe that will help me decide on what to do with the wheels, still really torn... Anyway, I really do appreciate everyone's kind words and criticism, it is nice to know what you guys think (not that I care, right? ). --Sean (Message edited by thespive on September 27, 2007) |

Looking good...My original idea was to go with a black and blue theme and even bought the gear to match. But I couldn't get this orange vision out of my head and ended up going that route. I think the blue wheels look great. See you at the BBQ. (Message edited by skarecrow on September 27, 2007) |
