My guess would be that you chose the wrong ECM type from the menu but I've never actually hooked ECMSpy to an ECM so take that with a grain of salt . |

I get the same phenomenon is mixed up. As M1combat says, make sure you have selected the right ECM type in the menu. Mine is still a bit mixed up even when I choose the right one. I THINK that only the fuel values are uploaded back to the ECM, not TPS and RPM so you could try changing the map and uploading it. just make sure you have a BACKUP first. |

Without knowing your intake, exhaust, valves and cams, it's not possible to look at the map and guess why it's not running right. The question I have (not being familiar with ECM SPY - though am looking into it) - those TPS values (left column) - and RPM (Top row) - don't make any sense at all to me. Shouldn't the Throttle position be closed/idle on top, WFO on bottom and RPM progressing from zero to Max along top row??? It's an 8-bit program so 0 - 255 is full range for both TPS and for fuel pulse. Agree also with what Daveymac just said, the UKBEG guys have been working with ECM Spy for a while now. OK - you got me intrigued and I went to the ECM Spy website FAQ section and got this:
quote:Non supported ECM If you find strange tps/rpm data this usually indicates a non supported ECM. This can be easily fixed and needs only the donwload of a new .ini-file, but we need your help. First of all, got to the program options (tool icon) and set "EEPROM fetch: next page after NAK". Next go to the eeprom tab an fetch your data. You will see the byte counter in the status line, bottom right. If fetching is done, save the eeprom data: File -> Save EEPROM. Please name the file exactly like the eeprom type, which can be found in the status line, bottom left: "BUEXXYYY 11-22-33". We need this type to successfully include an unknown ecm type. If it's a race ecm, then point this out too, in your mail or in the filename itself. Then, go to the eeprom subfolder of the program's folder (usually c:\program files\ecmspy\eprom) and you will find two new files; one .txt file and one .epr file. Please send both files (one is human readable, the other contains binary data) to the developers team: support (at) ecmspy.de Please, use only the e-mail address above, because all members of the team get your mail then. Please tell us the bike's type (XB9, XB12) and it's model year in that mail. The current models share the same ecm type, but the data in eeprom differ.
So, looks like my "gut" might have been right about the TPS and RPM values shown on the Y and X axes of the chart you pasted in first post. One word of caution: like the TRUE Buell race module (not the retail version which is called a race module) - it appears that you CAN melt down your motor by creating a too-lean condition. Just make sure you do your first engine runs on a dyno with a sniffer to make sure you are NOT running lean. Also (like race engines) - if you are not able to get separate oxygen sensor readings for each pipe, scavenging between cylinders can give you errors at the tailpipe. This is why for racing, you have one set of pipes for dyno tuning and one set for racing - or else you weld on a second oxy sensor port on the front pipe for tuning. (I'm assuming that the ECM Spy lets you tune the front/rear separately LIKE the true race ECM does) (Message edited by slaughter on September 21, 2007) |

The more I read, the more it seems that you have very similar capabilities to the true Buell race module - meaning that is can be quite complex AND it is easy to melt down your motor if you're not careful. Slaughter, Thats a mouthful and abit, Lots of good info there, Yeah the guys in the UK have been having a good old time with that program.... I may look into it even more as time goes by.. for a big bore kit for a 12 to 1450/1500... |

i put the newer confid mod file into the ecmspy folder and it came alive...its all in order now. thanks guys for the help. just got to get this thing tuned. I have the stock computer with the Race Intake and the Race Exhaust.....can anyone upload a pick of their front and rear cylender fuel maps for the race ECM????? thanks, Aaron |

There's a somewhat complex process you must follow to do it right. It's not a matter of changing a few cells and all will be better... Don't mess with it unless you have the right equipment and you know what you're doing. |

Regarding toasting your motor, yes it can be done but Gunter has posted some very interesting findings from his Lab relevant to this over at UK the site. |

You really need to monitor air/fuel in BOTH cylinders and not just a sniffer up the tailpipe - unless you find a map that somebody has developed for a very similar engine (intake/exhaust/cams/compression/displacement) You have to realize that true tuning of these engines is more like tuning two separate air-cooled single-cylinder engines. Timing AND fuel is different for each cylinder. |

If you run Direct Link, the cable that came with it will work with ECMSPY also. I am also playing some with this program...Just be careful as with anything, Make small changes and then test to see how they work. |

What's the difference between the DL cable and the VDSTS cable other than the battery hook up? Or more specifically, why won't the VDSTS cable work with the ECMSpy software? |
