Well, I am officially no longer part of the Buellers! Yesterday I picked up my new motorcycle, and I couldn't be happier. I'm going to miss the 12R, but not the dread whenever I needed service. I practically gave the bike away, but it was worth it for my peace of mind. This was my first Buell bike, and probably my last one, which is a pity, as they are great bikes. The only way I would consider buying a Buell again will be when someone else other than Harley begins selling and servicing them. Until then, no more "experimentation" for me. I can understand your frustration. Might I ask what did you replace the Buell with? I tried a Triumph Speed Triple for a while but went back to a Buell. | ||

The worst motorcycle I ever had in my life was a Kawasaki. What'd you replace the buell with? I hope it wasn't my old 1975 Kawasaki F7D 175 dual-purpose bike. As if to rub salt in my wounds... 16 years later, a neighbor tried to sell me his 1974 F7 and let me take it for a test ride. Of course, even that one broke down and left me stranded. Once again... I was pushing a 175 Kawasaki back home. No sale! | ||

As for the question of which motorcycle, I bought a BMW with every single option it came with, cash as always. The money I spent on my BMW I was going to spend on a new 1125r, but this is what happens when a customer does not get the expected treatment from Harley service departments - one moves on! Actually I was expected to take the verbal crap and say "thank you, may I have another?!"... please. And for Kawasakis, my first bike when I was 16 was a KLX175... tons of accidents on it, but never any problems mechanically. Fond memories of it...  | ||

I pick up my new GS BMW tomorrow, it was supposed to be a Uly but the dealer made the deal go sour, to top it off he lost a sale to my wife for a new Softtail Classic, she picked up her new ride from a different dealership yesterday. As I said once before, no more Buells till I don't have to deal with HD, I am keeping my S2 and gettting rid of my 9R.   | ||

Toona, thanks for the offer - the ride I did with you guys was the best I ever done with my 12R! That was the only time that I really pushed my bike almost to the limits. It was such a pleasure seeing so many Buells at one time. Bake, congratulations on the GS - amazing handling for such a big bike, don't you think so? Pity you had to go to another dealer for the Harley, but that attitude that the customer should expect mediocrity is absolutely wrong. I guess they forgot Marketing 101: "The customer is always right". With so many dealers, I would think they would be careful not to piss a customer... Years ago, when I was working in retail to pay for school, I had to take so much crap from customers, but I always had to keep on smiling. No matter what they did, I could not say anything back. Later I understood why - competition is the rule of the game. When you loose one customer, there are at least >10 other lost customers too. Nonetheless, I still love Buells, and specially this forum! The dealer service discussion is really a dilemma for me, as I worked on motorcycles (Hondas & Kawasakis) for 15 years. Made a good living, back then, and had great fun doing it too. We needed customers that couldn't, work on their own bikes. They were my bread and butter. I wanted a BMW too at one time. Couldn't afford to buy and insure one at the time. Another dream(want) never realized. Good luck with the Beemers. I hope their service network exceeds your expectations. | ||

I have too agree the service departments for harley are a joke when it comes too buells I am in daytona and have been so turned off by them since I bought my bike. had I known this before hand I would have gotten something else for sure. That being said there are allot of independent mech's who will service a vtwin of any kind and I do allot of wrenching myself now thanks too HD's idiotic attitude towards buell's. It is obviously a wide spread issue that needs attention if this many people have these problems with HD and buell service. Still my bike rules and rarely needs a thing anyway. | ||

I guess it is all relative, I had a R1100s Boxer Cup and got lousy service from my local BMW dealer. All the common complaints, wouldn't listen, didn't fix things properly, charged for warranty work, and parts were expensive! On top of everything else they were arrogant. I remember one incident where the rear drive seal was leaking, oil residue everywhere on the rear drive, rim and tire. The seal going away is a common problem on the bike. They would not schedule service without a diagnostic appointment first and I had the bike there at the dealer! I eventually found an independent tech that did great work at a reasonable price. With my Buell I have gotten outstanding service from several dealers close to home, I’ve even had them squeeze me in before some Harleys. I liked the BMW well enough it was a competent motorcycle. I sold it because it just lacked soul. | ||

my short story. i noticed oil coming out from airbox. at the time i didn't know why. so, took it to hd shop. they explained the reason and ok cool. then, they say. sir, you had no oil on the dip stick. i said really i just check it last week. less then a 100 mile ago. they replied with, you must have a oil consumtion problem. i thought really! so i ask, was the bike on the side stand or strait up. there reply, strait up when oil was checked. flipping moron. i then said well maybe you should check oil the way it's supposed to be checked. ON THE SIDE STAND. they looked clueless. i then showed them the proper way and yep way over full. well, i made them change my oil for free that day. then somewhere in there they tell me, we don't see much of these!!!!!!!! damn, i hate the dealer. don't know shit and wont to charge 90 bucks to mount two tires on rims only. ya, no thanks. | ||

well I have too say in daytona it is not relative 3 harley shops and 3 shops that treated me like I bought a foreign bike. If you look around this forum you will see its a nationwide issue for buell owners and not isolated too a few shops. | ||

I love buell but the hd dealers do not get it I swear well I hope we are moving away from them I like harley for what they are but I can't stand the way they represent a fine machine like buell. The japs are already starting to copy alot of buells mass centralization technology so it aint buell causing these problems its good ol HD in my eyes cause if buell was a (bad step child) then the machine would be left out to pasture with its technology by all. Lets face HD has made some bonehead plays through the years soI shouldn't be suprised. example: AMF,Golfcarts,sprints,70 or 71 boatback sportsters,there are alot more too | ||

HD Edison has had my bike for 3 months with extended warranty service. The wheel bearing failed on my 2004XB12s going down Highway 78 NJ This was June 17 they have had the bike for almost 3 months.I am buying a KTM Super Duke. No More Buell. | ||

Lenny, go check this bike out after riding the Superduke, the Aprillia Tuono R. Rotax 60 degree V twin powered. I just purchased one and it is very impressive. The bikes I test rode were the Superduke, Triumph Speed Triple, Ducati Hypermotard and S4RS. Do they actually come from the factory that ugly? Holy crap! It fell outta the ugly tree, hit every branch on the way down then hit the roots. That bike makes the 1125R look like Pam Anderson during her Baywatch days. I swear if you parked and 1125R next to it, the difference would be like seeing 18 year old Britney and current Britney. I am sure you bought ti because you felt sorry for it, sitting there all ugly, lookingh for a home.  I am sure it is fun to ride though, but I will take my chances on my Buell. --Sean | ||

As far as Buell dealer service goes. One of the reasons I chose a Buell, was the fact that I could do all the work myself, if I had to. So far the local dealer has only done recalls. And I was not impressed with their protocol. That photo does not do the Aprillia Tuono R. justice. Being blessed(?) by close proximity to the Rock Store, I think I've seen just about everything there is to see. And that bike is pretty cool looking in person... That being said; there are 2 things wrong with it: chain drive and liquid cooling. | ||
