Uh a girder front end is ancient. You know your posting in the XB section right? You should find an old Harley forum somewhere. I can put one together but I need to be able to see the parts in order to do it. I only have built one so far and thats been a while back. |

Yeah I know it is ancient but it would be for a play bike that i want to make as unique as possible. And as far as putting one together , i dont have any parts i need to make them . it seems that there is a fixed fork bar adn then a moving bar that is attached to a shock of some kind . I suck at explaining things the krugger salt flat bike has a girder front end that is what has sparked my curiosity. http://www.bikernet.com/bikebarn/PageViewer.asp?Pa geID=1686 on the second page past the girl |

while buying one would be simple , i kind of want to make one and it would have to be cheaper than 600( mabye not ) . and 3 over would mess with my geometry a little (Message edited by sub65chris on August 30, 2007) (Message edited by sub65chris on August 30, 2007) (Message edited by sub65chris on August 30, 2007) |

Let me get back to you. I'll talk with my boss and maybe he could tell me where you could get one cheap thats disassembled. That way you get to put it together and learn how much you'll hate it....lol.J/K My boss has one on the front of his pan head. Of course he likes it. And we may have one around that he might like to get rid of. I'll get back to you tomorrow. You try E-Bay yet? |

Uh a girder front end is ancient. You know your posting in the XB section right? Confederate Wraith uses a girder fork. It's pretty modern, and handles quite well from what I'm told! http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/features/122_050 4_confederate_wraith_video/ |

ah yes....the wraith. such a wild concept. and apparently it works! you'd have to have a SHORT little girder for your bike. like the ones on the old Indian Chiefs and Fours. and even at that, this is WAY inferior technology to your current set-up.
that's a wild lookin' headlight assembly on your bike, btw. i understand the need to be different, but this girder thing, especially for someone who is "not good at this sort of thing", is probably a dangerous idea. my .02 there. (Message edited by xbullet on August 31, 2007) |

Xbullet - is probably a dangerous idea. you are right but i worked on helicopters for the marine corps for 5 years and the assembly isnt going to be bad its its the layout and design that im no good at . how long do the legs need to be ? how wide does it need to be? how does the shock mount to the frame then the fork? what dio i make it out of? how to mount the perimeter brake? where to get the shock and how long and what spring weight or rate do i need for a bike that i want to weigh about 320 lbs? just some questions that im not real good at figuring out . |

Vincent girdraulics have been used at Bonneville currently and when they were new. See http://www.vincentstreamliner.com/Hamel2005/Hamel2 005.html and http://www.motosolvang.com/bike_pages/1949_Vincent _Black_Lightning.htm |

Ducbsa - how does the girdraulic work it seems pretty complicated ? there are schocks in the big tubes and they are hidden ? i saw the breakdown adn i am on the brink of understanding but i need a little push to cross over. |

The springs are in the long tubes. The shock is a short one in the middle. |

Bad news Chris no luck with the Girder. My Boss had just the one and it went on our Green Pan Head the was sold four months ago. I tried but no luck. Also $600 is a really good price for a front end like this. (Message edited by Wantxbr on August 31, 2007) |

Google Ronin Magpul or RMD billet. The girder design was dropped because BMW had admierers and their slider hydralulic suspension worked great on bumpy old roads (great for dirt bikes that need maximum travel). The girder if designed correctly could eliminate (or nearly eliminate) stiction, brake dive, could lessen unsprung weight and have consistant trail during suspension compression. Conventional forks upon dive create less rake and shorten trail. A girders trail can be completely controled depending on the upper and lower H arms length. Girders are not dead. |
