Hey all, I have had my 03 XB9s for a couple months now, and finally set up the suspension. The bike did not come with an owners manual, and all I could get off of the Buell web site was for the 05(PDF). I was wondering if they made changes to the suspension from 03 to 05 and are the settings based on the weight of the rider the same for the 03 bikes? Thanks! |

as long as you don't have the low version, it should be the same. |

I think the forks got updated in '04. Not sure if the settings changed any though. |

They are different by a quarter turn. |

1/4 turn which way? I weigh 195 lbs, so I set the fork to the 05 specs of 5 lines of preload, 1.25 compression, and 1.5 rebound and th rear to 5 preload, 1.5 compression, and 1.25 rebound. Thanks |

IF you have ANY modern sportbike, you can COUNT ON the basic setup working for you by first setting the static sag at the front axle for 35mm and the rear at 25mm. If for example, you are MAXED on spring compression and are still getting more than 35mm and 25mm, you need heavier springs (or a diet) or if you are backed out all the way and still unable to get 35mm and 25mm, you need to get lighter springs. You can then use Higbee's compression and rebound damping setting suggestions. On initial damping settings, if you have NO suggestions, you want to err on the side of less damping (too little damping) - you don't want to err on the side of making your suspension too highly damped. Better to "sneak up" on damping than "backing off." You can ONLY use ANY suggestions (your manual, Higbee or any other) as STARTING settings. You will make small tweaks as you feel the need. For a 200 lb rider, normal setting on an 03: Front Compression 1.25 Front Rebound 1.5 Pre Load 5 Rear Pre Load 5 Rear Compression 1.5 Rebound 1.25 Those are the aggressive settings for an 07 if you are 200 to 230lbs. Settings are also a matter of rider style and ability, so I would do a little experimenting from that starting point. (Message edited by chihuahua_stud on August 29, 2007) |
