No one can even have the humility to
say 123,600 TEFLON tape sealed miles
is a more durable real world test of
using teflon tape or not.

Tensioner shoe pieces were all over
the cam box area when I had them changed
at 95,000 miles !

Buell guys talk about riding like jackhammers and then worry about
a piece of teflon tape? What about
a piece of aluminum from jackhammer riding
and why have a oil filter?

The teflon crumb is probably softer
material then a piece of CARBON breaking off
and floating around.

Give it a rest.

You jumped into a thread just to belittle people for discussing O-rings. Now your posts are getting abusive and spam-like.

P.S. No, you mileage on that engine proves nothing. It's like saying "I've ridden 125K miles without a helmet, so you're just as safe without a helmet as with one."

Why did this warrant a separate thread? No need to let a goofy argument spill over.

Honestly, who gives a flyin' ________ either way?

See, this is what happens when Buell finally comes out with a water-cooled engine. People don't stop the pointless arguing, they just pick a different subject.

We need three seperate threads covering this?

I think I'll start a thread on if I need to reflash my ECM if I change the muffler. I don't think that's been covered yet today.

Should I use teflon tape on my drain plug? JUST A JOKE! Please don't answer this. Sorry I couldn't resist. Now I'm going to get a headache every time I see a role of teflon tape and a stomach ache from laughing.

There are other ways to get an effective seal by combining the O-Ring with a continuous protective layer:

We wouldn't want a piece of teflon tape getting loose in the wrong place and causing damage.

Southsidebuellone...My comments were not meant at anyone personally and I know I didn't call you a pot smoker. I don't know you. I was just trying to lighten things up a little. If my non offensive comments offended anyone SORRY grow some thicker skin.

Is the Teflon tape metric or SAE?
I don't want no mixed fasteners or sealing devices on my Buell.
Another thing is that Teflon made in Austria? I don't want no "Hills are alive with the sound of music", beer drinking, yodeling Teflon.

dbird...as you should be well aware you would need to purchase both ASE and metric teflon tape to work on your buell as thy have mixed and matched them into our bikes

Southsidebuellone. I used teflon tape on my oil pump fittings because they have leaked since I bought the bike. Think I care what people have to say around here. This world if full of know it all. I found know-it-alls in the computer field, auto, field and of course here in the motorcycle field. Don't let it bother you... Do what you want with your bike!

That's not correct and I think you know why... I'm sure you mean 'SAE' teflon tape, not ASE.

And remember, some SAE sizes are compatible with metric sizes. Tape type is moot in these cases.

The tape thing was funny, but you never really win a pissing contest, you just get pee-pee stains on your pants. I try to stop arguing when I start looking stupid to those around me, but I never realize when that starts until it's too late. Then I got egg on my face and pee on my pants.

I don't care where you're from: that's just not cool.

There are other teflon tape arguments going on right now?

For the record... I'm for it.

The oil pump fittings are tapered threads. Teflon tape is meant to seal tapered threads. The drain plugs have straight threads. Buell calls for liquid thread sealant in addition to an O-ring on the drain plugs.
