I've got a cheap solution that only costs a couple bucks. Get some aircraft cable, put shrink wrap over a length of it and crimp a loop on each end. Pop off the seat and run the cable through your helmet D ring and put both loops of the cable on the seat stud and put the seat back on and voila! You can lock several helmets this way, but be sure to use shrink wrap or cable that has a plastic coating so you don't scratch anything. Good luck | ||

Mine never leaves this:  Unless I can lock it up somewhere or have someone else look out after it. I will occasionally leave it next to the bike when I run into the store but never for more than just a few minutes. I don't know why someone would want someone else's helmet, but with mine, they could just change out all the inside padding and be good to go. | ||

I've seen people do nasty things to helmets that were left on the bike, so theft isn't the only thing you should worry about. I think Court has a story involving urine and a helmet on a bike at Daytona. I've also seen (nasty) trash put in helmets, people spitting in/on the helmet and bike, and people probably do other nastier stuff I can't conceive of doing to someone else's property. I Always take my helmet with me. The one exception? At homecoming with all the Buellers there. Other than that my Arai stays with me, or in secure storage at the place I'm visiting. | ||

I take mine 99% of the time. The other 1% I use this.   A couple of self tapping screws and 2 L brackets from wally world. Two helmet locks for under 2 dolla. | ||

I carry a light combination cable lock (OnGuard 5062 -- http://www.onguardlock.com/litecable/) with me that has a 7' long, non-self-coiling cable. If I'm going to be somewhere like a shopping center, Walmart, etc. where the bike will be in plain site, I wrap the cable around the chinpiece of the helmet one time, through the arm of my leather jacket, and then through the passenger peg brackets, Done this way, the helmet isn't going to fall off and it's not going to be snatched by someone. It's not like a case-hardened chain, but it's fine for low-crime areas where the bike is in plain sight. I just can't see any sense in carrying a heavier cable. If a crook is carrying something which can cut through a thin cable, it will probably cut through a thicker one in about the same amount of time. In those cases, the helmet comes with me. If you have a full-face helmet, never lock it through the d-rings. Crooks just cut the straps, leaving you with d-rings and no helmet. | ||

When I go into the gym I leave my helmet and leather at the front desk. They know you and should be more than happy to hold them for you. | ||

+1 with the right peg holding a Master padlock through the lightening hole. It's always there when I need it. A vinyl coated cable with loops on the ends can secure my Aerostich suit too. | ||

I found out that if you actually use the helmet lock on the Uly it is a bad idea to use it right after you fuel up the bike. Even if you don't overfill the tank, gassing up in the morning and having the sun come up on the bike will cause the overflow to spuge. The factory overflow hose comes out right above where your helmet hangs as the bike is setting on the side stand. Not a good thing. | ||

I have custom painted helmet and the paint job was damn near as much as the lid. It never leaves my hand. I have yet to come across a buisness that isn't happy to let you set your helmet behind a desk or counter if your going to be there awhile. And the suggestion above of just popping off your seat doesn't work on a Firebolt. Unless you want to unscrew the seat every time you need to use that trick. LOL | ||

I just use a small padlock. I slip the D ring over the front break lever, and then put the padlock on the lever so the helmet won't slide off the lever. If somebody wants my helmet bad enough to cut the strap, they can have it... It just gives me an excuse to buy a better helmet. | ||

Works fine for single-shop stops, but less so when you drop by a mall. Or a park. Or some store that has a line of 15 people waiting at the Customer Service desk where you need to leave the helmet. I don't go anywhere without my cable lock. It's handy for securing everything from my helmet to my jacket to my tank bag to my tail bag. Obviously, that's not something I'd rely on if the bike was in a bad neighborhood, but I generally don't park my bike in places like that, either. | ||

Mine came with a little cable (in the took kit) that you put through the D ring on the helmet and secure to a bolt located in the under seat compartment. Works fine. | ||

I never let it out of my sight. I always ride with a backpack, so if I'm going to be away from the bike for a while walking around or whatever, I put it in the bag and sling it on my back. If I'm fueling up or just running into a convenience store or something, I usually set it on the ground beside my bike. | ||

I can hook the strap on the seat post under the seat and then put the seat back on an it's locked there. But most of the time I have it with me, As far as going to the gym I leave it at the front desk when I go they are cool with it. | ||

There is a kit from kuryakin (sp?) that mounts a helmet lock to the license plate frame. $20 And it looks pretty clean, I will post pics of mine tomorrow ;) |
