Jim and I went to the races this weekend @ VIR. Upon leaving we got separated. Somehow I apparently got in front. (I'm still wondering how, as the last time I saw him he was crossing the bridge over the track ahead of me.) On 58 close to intersection of 645 (a 10th from the Old Mill Golf course) at approximately 6:15 p.m. Jim attempted to pass an older couple in an S-10 blazer that turned left in front of him. He impacted the right rear of the vehicle. There was a Volunteer Rescue Squad vehicle on it's way to another call behind him so, he received almost immediate attention. He was helicoptered to Roanoke where he passed away. There are more details on my end but those are essentially the details I got from his cousin who spoke with the Troopers who worked the wreck. There will we a receiving of friends @ United Methodist Church in Fountain City (Knoxville, next to the Creamery) from 5 to 7 Thursday evening. | ||

I think that I speak for everyone here in offering our heartfelt condolences to those close to Jim Garvey. Although it brings little consolation in such a time of loss, please take some comfort in knowing that Jim was doing something that he loved.  Rest in Peace | ||

My condolences. I always hate to hear of another rider down. As was said above though, at least he went out doing something he loved. There are worse ways to go. | ||

Thank you all for the kind words. Jim was probably the biggest reason I bought the XB. He was a meticulous wrench among other talents. The fact that he traded an ST4 Ducati for the bike you see pictured made me take a MUCH more serious look at the brand. (he wasn't one for impulsive moves thus, I thought there may be something to this Buell thing.) | ||

My most heartfelt condolences go out to Jim, his friends and family. Being a firefighter i see this far too often. I have 2 sets of brothers.. one here and one with the fire department. either loss is just as important. Any loss is a terrible loss for everyone. Just save me one or two twisties when i get there someday Jim, but tear em up till then. R.I.P brother.. Pegs down... | ||
