I recently installed the VDSTS software on my computer and today tried to do a TPS reset. I followed the instructions and got it ready to do the TPS reset. After performing the TPS reset as described, when I went to go back to the Active tests screen, in order to monitor the adjustment of the idle screw, the system would disconnect from the bike and then require me to start over with the TPS reset from the beginning. After doing this a few times, now there seems to be several other glitches, which will not allow a connection with the bike. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any insights. Could a weakening battery on the bike be causing a weak signal connection between the bike and the computer? I will try and get tech support from the manufacturer and/or where I bought the software, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any ideas. Thanks. |

I am sure a weak battery will cause you all kinds of aggravation but I haven't used the software enough to comment otherwise - maybe others have experienced these symptoms? |

You have to reconnect between those screens. Reset TPS, close that screen, open and reconnect in the meter screen then monitor temp tps degrees/voltage, rpm and so on. Weak battery will screw with the software a bit |

The problem that I had, was that when I reconnected, after doing the TPS reset and going back to the meter screen to adjust the throttle stop screw to the specs, the TPS is no longer at zero. |

Have seen that happen before. Clean the butterfly, check your right grip (sometimes doesnt allow full closure) and shoot some lube on the idle adjustment cable. The cable will stick every once in a while and will show a zero TPS reading when in all acuallity its around .08 or so. Give that a shot and see how ya make out if it doesnt help PM me and I can try and walk you thriugh the best I can. |

Also, do your self a favor and pull the headlight fuse before you start doing ANY work that involves leaving the KEY ON while the engine is off. keeps the voltage up, and saves battery from abuse. |

Good info from both Hammer71 and Fullpower. Very important that the throttle plate is fully closed for a TPS reset. Good tip on the headlight too. |

In addition to pulling the fuse for the lights i leave my trickle charger on the battery. |

The latest update...I have tried again with a fully charged battery and with the headlight fuse pulled out. The software will not connect with the bike. I went through the instructions step by step, several times and it will not open the designated port. I suppose i just have to contact the customer service for the software. It's a bummer, because I have wasted a bunch of time, not to mention riding time. |

Jhanz, I had the same symptoms with an earlier VDSTS version, thinking my cable or the software was bad. A call to Technoresearch had me do the following which cured it. It may be worth a try. Try to pull the ECM information. If you can do this, then your hardware is at least working and should be able to connect for other testing/diagnostics. If you can't, then the profile info for your bike may be corrupted. VDSTS creates a folder for your bike when you initially connect, located within the VDSTS installation folder on your computer. I can't remember the name of it, but you need to delete it. You could just uninstall VDSTS and manually delete the main VDSTS folder (C:\VDSTS or C:\Program Files\VDSTS) if you have to, ensuring that all previous VDSTS data is removed. Re-install VDSTS and try again. The TR software engineer explained that the bike profile data sometimes gets glitched and can cause a loss of connectivity. |

Tork, Thanks for the info. The cable is working, because it allowed me to connect and do a partial TPS reset the first time around. I know this because the bike was running better after that. I emailed TechnoResearch but have not received a reply yet. I am hoping I will hear something soon. |
