Fellow Jardine RT owners, I'm about to pull my muffler off for cleaning/maintenance. Since I didn't install it, (I'm the second owner)I'm not entirely positive how it comes off. From the looks of it, it seems that it's simply held on by a couple of springs. Before I do anything stupid...anyone want to send out a little advice? Thanks, Jamie |

You are correct about the springs, but there should also be a clamp towards the back of the muffler. If you are going to have it off, and you are not the first owner I would seriously consider re-packing the muffler. How to on the re-pack is already posted in the KV IIRC |

Thanks Brian...It appeared that's all there is to it...just wanted to make sure. I'm guessing once I remove the clamp and then unhook the springs, I'll just have to wiggle it aft and it will "slip" off. Yes, I'm going to repack it. It won't be this weekend though. I want to try out the stainless steel packing and haven't ordered it yet. This removal's purpose is to scrape off a burned up sticker. Thanks again, Jamie |

Well, I got the muffler off. No problems at all. I was really surprised how easily it just slid off. Doesn't seem like it's really on there all that tight. Any way, once off, I cleaned it and got the majority of the burned Jardine sticker off...just some staining left that refused to come off. It's much better though. While the pipe was off, I inspected it and noticed that the top right center area of the muffler is blued from heat. Is it normal for the muffler to have a "hot" spot? |
