A week ago I had my 10K mile service performed. I guess the job was well done, but I had to take it back to readjust the throttle and clutch cable. Last Sunday I went for a ride with a fellow Bueller in Philadelphia, and once or twice I felt the rear tire slip on acceleration and/or on cornering. I assumed it was oil on the rode, so I just took it easy on the return home. On Monday afternoon I went to place a cover on the motorcycle, and saw oil beneath the motorcycle. On closer inspection, I noticed that oil was dripping onto the rear tire and the muffler, and the bottom of the swingarm was covered in oil! Called the dealership, and they picked up the bike on Wednesday (great service). The next day they called me and told me that there was a crack on the swingarm weld, and that they had ordered a new swingarm. Saturday they called me and told me that the bike was ready! Very impressed with how quick they took care of this mess. New swingarm, new bearings, etc. Now I have to regain my confidence on the build quality of my bike. Is this a common problem? I've never heard of a swingarm cracking before. Paul |

their was a few cases of cracked swing arms if you do a search, most were right along that bottom welded seam. I have not heard of a crack in a while though |

Yes, this was done under warranty. Now I worry that I'll be going down a road and the swingarm will crack/split and cause a major accident. I guess in a few days my confidence will start to build again... I wonder where they are made, or what kind of QC is done to them... (Message edited by bueaddicted on July 22, 2007) |

Originally, the swing arms were made in Italy, by Brembo, if I recall correctly. In 2006, I think it was, they went to a new design made in China. Those are the ones that have had some problems. I think I got that right, if not, could someone please correct me? |

That really sucks. At least it was replaced under warranty without hassle as it should have been. I'm sure having oil dripping in front of the rear tire would hurt my confidence as well, but just keep an eye on it and you'll be fine. After a while you'll soon forget it. |

The swingarm on my '07 XB9R was made in......CHINA? Are you freaking kidding me? The wheels are bad enough! As for the quality, any man made item can fail. Go on a GSXR board and ask about their frames. |

I thought Erik said at homecoming the 08 swing arms are made in the US. Court is that true?????? This is the second time I have heard of the chinese swing arm leaking on the weld. I have the suspect swing arm on my bike and may upgrade to an 08 arm. |

The 1125R frame and swingarm are made in the USA. I'm aware of no swingarms ever being made in China. I'd have to know the year and VIN to know anything about frequency. It sounds like it's been fixed. I'd ride the bike and enjoy the heck out of it. |

Yes, its fixed now in a very short time by a great dealership, but my confidence has surely suffered after going though this. The only thing they did incorrectly was they refilled with regular oil instead of Syn3 oil. Guess next weekend I'm doing an oil change. Court, I can pm you my VIN number if you want it. I know stuff like this can happen, and I don't blame anyone, even the "chinese" . As for forgetting and enjoying the bike, don't worry - I AM ENJOYING MY BIKE!!!! To get over my "fear", today I went on an aimless 325 mile ride in the Pine Barrens. Loved every single mile! Paul |
