Who out there has used or is using header wrap and what do you have to say about it? I've heard the header is good for about 2 years once it's wrapped...
Thanks much!

My header has been wrapped for a couple years, the header looks fine but I did have to replace the wrap this year because the old stuff started falling apart.

Mine has been wrapped for over a year so far.

Most of the stories about corrosion and/or damage to headers/manifolds are based on automotive exhausts
made out of iron or high carbon steel which rust easily and the wrap accelerates that issue. Your Buell has a
stainless steel header on it so rust is a non-issue.

I have heard reports of headers becoming brittle after wrapping, but I have never seen it personally.

I just did my bike a couple of months ago, so I cant really speak on the longevity of the wrap, but I can definitely tell you that the bike runs MUCH cooler now. I'm sure that keeping all of that excess radiant heat away from the oil cooler lines and filter isn't hurting anything either. As far as the pipes themselves go, they're stainless steel, and I'm not worried about them at all.

I'm looking at the DEI kits at Summit. How much do I need to wrap the headers on the Buell. Will the 15 foot short roll kit be enough???

I wrapped my two years ago and bought the 50 ft roll. You use more than you think. Get the spray sealant.

Thanks Jersey. I'm gonna stop by a local speed shop and see if they have any in stock this afternoon.

I can handle the heat from the Harley lump when moving but around town in stop and go traffic its BAD. South Florida temp's in the summer and city traffic are brutal. Besides the header wrap will a heat blanket from Special Ops be worthwhile as well for a 12r??

I can't comment on the blanket since I don't have one but, the wrap reduces the heat without question. It will stink to high heaven when newly wrapped for a few rides...

Odie's heat barriers made a very noticable difference on my 12r. They are well worth it.

Thanks new guy. Seems like a cheap investment at $50.00 for both of them if they work.

"xb12rand" look into ceramic coating. Doesn't keep the heat in the bike like raps and I think looks 100 times better. It's around $100 and makes the pipes look sweet. Just my opinion of course.
