I hope there a direct bolt on, maybe with a different set of cams?? would be a nice upgrade for durability or at least piece of mind. I know that on my 04 one thing on my mind when I go out to ride is, I hope my oil pump gear will be ok today |

It looks similar to the XBRR oil pump and cam setup. The oil pump is driven off of the end of two of the cams. If that is the change I would be looking into the swap for my own XB. I think that it should be a simple swap. It is unlikely that the engine cases have changed between 07 and 08. |

Look at the close-up pic in the recent Fuell issue on the XBRR. You'd also need a blank plate to replace the existing oil pump. A kit would be really nice, but I think that the major complication is the change to the ignition trigger. They've moved that to the other side of the engine. So, if you change the oil pump, you've got to change the crank trigger too, which means new primary cover, new crank sprocket, maybe new stator coil, maybe new ECM, etc., etc. It'd be really nice, but it may be too extensive to merit a kit replacement. I just noticed that the supply line to the oil cooler connects to the engine where the old oil pressure switch went. Im not so sure that the swap will be possible because of this. The cam sensor is another problem but it could still be in the cam cover on the 08 bikes and we just may not see it. I do like the look of the new cam cover. It looks more mechanical!! |

On the XBRR, the crank position sensor moved to the other end of the crank. I don't think there's any room for it on the right side with the new oil pump arrangement. |
