Photo was taken at today's Pop's Run on Long Island. End site was at Cantiague Park in Hicksville (yes... Hicksville), NY. The young lady is the daughter of one of our club members.

HEY...Long Island! My old stompin' ground! Moved to NC almost a year ago... can't say I miss it much... LONG COLD WINTERS, dreary overcast days... sometimes a couple weeks at a time, Swarms of mosquitos through the warm MONTH that rains out every other day... One thing I miss though is knowing where all the good riding roads are... desperately trying to meet people in the Raleigh area, that know where the good roads are, that don't consist of riding 6 hours into the smokies.

Your buddies daughter would get me in trouble REALLY FAST! Whew! And yes the mirrors look great as well! Lets see some more angles of it though, so we can truly bask in it's glory... maybe without such a distracting passenger as well... it really makes it difficult to even notice the mirrors

Ah Nick! You noticed the seat! Yes, that is the Lightning Long sport saddle in Sunset orange and black. ; )

Long Island ain't so bad thanks to Global Warming. It was in the 70's this past January. Of course, if it keeps up, we'll be underwater in ten years. At least in NC you have some high ground to escape to! But I manage to ride year round here so you know it can't be that bad. The snow is rarely around for more than a day or two. Even when it doesn't melt, the main roads are quickly cleared and the traffic gets rid of the rest of the snow and ice.

But we have some of the best BEACHES in the country according to a recent survey! That and the fresh seafood (and the lack of hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes) make this one of the better areas to live in my opinion.

Maybe I am a glass is half empty kind of guy... So far personally I'm SO much happier down here. There are things I miss like, good Pizza, Mom and Pop establishments This place is growing so fast all we have are franchises, mom and pop type restaurants ALWAYS have the best food!!! BREAKFAST SPECIALS!!! What I would give for a good New York Deli... Hero Shops, Meat Markets, seafood markets... there is a long list but it's 90% food related... Oh yeah, I HATE WALMART, especially because, it's existence in our area, prevents anybody from having a chance in the world to open a personal business, and it actually succeeding. We have a few great local Coffee shops though that are NOT Starbucks! Thank god, overpriced nasty swill... Sorry got a little carried away there... I would say at least in my area, the positives out way the negatives tenfold! I just didn't feel that way about living on Long Island... as great a place that it is.

Man that girl is HOT... just my taste! Wish I got to know her when I lived there, that's for sure... Ride safe and post some more pics at different angles! I'm very interested in getting bar end mirrors for my steed, I like the napoleons better than most I've seen, just would like to see them on an XB!

I plan on taking some photos tonight for another thread (location of BMW accessory socket on my bike) and I'll take some additional ones showing the mirrors. All depends on the weather (they're predicting thunderstorms this afternoon... but if you remember correctly at this time of year up here they ALWAYS predict thunderstorms during the day. 9 times out of 10 they never occur).

They got it right this time. Sky opened up just as I got home. I'll try again later in the week. Sorry!

Where did you get that windscreen? And how did you mount it (pictures)?

That is a Laminar Speed Shield. I have photos of it up here somewhere which I posted right after I installed in. It's held on with 3M cordlock (like Velcro on steroids). I've had the bike on the racetrack and the shield won't fly off so the attachment method shouldn't be a worry. http://www.laminarlip.com/speed3.htm and scroll to the bottom.

Ah, much easier to see the mirrors now. Thanks.

Those don't look too bad. Pretty good actually.

I have just one question if you don't mind.
How far into the handlebar do they go?
I ask because I have polly heaters inside my bars and I'm wondering if there'd be enough clearance for bar end mirrors.

The rubber insert is about an inch and a half long, but shortens up when you tighten down the set screw (but I don't know by how much).

Don't hand grip warmers mount OUTSIDE the bar, but INSIDE the grip? That's the way it is with the heated grips on my BMW...

Poly heaters are little metal cylinders that you insert inside the handlebars. The wires run through the handlebars as well for a clean look. They work great & let you use any grips you like.

As coincidence would have it, there is about an inch & a half of space between the heater & the end of the grip so it looks like the Napoleons would work just dandy : )

Thanks for the info.

Interesting. Would you have a web page for those heaters? I guess I should've pointed out that if you had room for the poly heater with the stock plastic end plugs, then you shouldn't have an issue with the Napoleon Barends either...

And a final photo for Brickcop who wanted to see how the Laminar Speed Shield is attached to the flyscreen:

But my favorite photo is still the first one I used to start this thread. ; )

Thanks! I can't claim the credit for it. I just wandered into Cycle Delics and told the maestro what I had in mind. He did the rest and I'm delighted with the result.

Sorry for the late reply to your question.
You can do a search for pollyheaters if you're interested. Some of our sponsors carry them.

I have to second the comments about the paint job. Very nice. I really, really like the lightning on the airbox cover.

Thanks for the photo's. I just installed the napoleon mirrors on my 2007 XB12Ss and I was going to do the screen, but now they just came out with a Corbin seat for the Long and I have to have that first. }
