Just wanted to let you guys know of my experience with my front brake rotor. For a long time now I’ve had those burn marks on the rotor, and every time I applied the front brakes, the whole front shook and vibrated badly. Some days the shaking wasn’t too bad, but other days it was enough for me to release the brake immediately! You all know how unsafe that can be ... Well, after doing a search on Badweather, it seems that this problem does occur often. I even thought about buying different pads like some people suggested, but I like to keep OEM pads when it comes to brakes (BMC must have studied them). Well, 2 weeks ago I decided to stop by Brian’s Harley/Buell (PA) to see what they could recommend. I haven’t had much experience with this dealer, but I am extremely satisfied with them now! As soon as I walked in to the service department, they were very friendly, joked about my almost 10K miles on my ’07 12R, stating that I’m putting too many miles on the Buell, and that Harley’s are not made to be ridden too many miles/year, etc. Everybody was laughing, including some customers. The Buell tech rides a beautiful sounding X1, and he quickly took a look at the rotor, asked me a few questions, and agreed that it was a safety concern. He then took my bike, removed the pads, sanded them down, did something to the rotor that greatly improved the braking vibration, and told me that they would call me when they had the parts. No charge for all his work! Well, to keep this short, he ordered all the parts from BMC, and last weekend replaced the rotor and pads under warranty – this is what I call great service! No trying to place the blame on the rider, no excuses (braking too hard!!), just great helpful service. The new pads are not the same as I had before – the metal part that hold the pads look like made of copper and even the pads looks different. He told me to go very lightly with the brakes for the next 200 miles, and so I did. I barely used them for 250 miles; very hard to do this on a Buell, as you all know ! I now have a bike that brakes like my last Kawasaki (smooth), and I’m loving it! What a difference this has made on my confidence level. A few weeks ago I was feeling disheartened with my Buell experience because of some other stuff, but BMC must understand that it is the quality service one experiences at the dealer that makes one come back to the brand. Now I have my 10K mile service to do, a new rear tire to replace, and if Buell comes out with a new “radical” different model this year, a new Buell to purchase! Also, if BMC is hearing, please make sure that it doesn’t sound like a lawn-mower! Or at least offer an alternative! PLEASE, I’M ON MY KNEES ASKING THIS! Court: I don’t know how to let BMC customer service know, but if you could, please let someone know how great Brian’s Harley is to Buell riders. Thanks. PS Sorry for the long post |
