Paradise Harley in Portland, OR is telling me $310!

That hurts me in the pocket book big time. Is this the norm?

It's really easy to do yourself. Do you have a basic set of tools and a factory manual?

I do have those things. I'm just nervous first "real" bike and want it all done right!

This bike is so easy to maintian a blind monkey could do it.

Get the factory manual ($60 aprox) and do all your own service. When it comes time to do the forks have a pro do those but everything else is a breeze.

That is what mine cost in California. I paid it and then got the service and parts manuals. Will do it myself from now on.

mine cost me one 18pk of tecate, 4 quarts of oil and a filter.......and the help of someone that tears their own toys apart...

FYI:My primary chain at 1000 miles didnt even need the adjustment, it was still plenty tight. clutch didnt really need it either but we did it anyway.

Does a do it yourself service or an independent mechanic doing service void the warranty?

Yea , I had mine done for 250 bucks, I thought that was a rip off ! ! I have always maintained my own bikes, but this is the first sreet bike I have ever owned and being brand new, everyone I talked to told me to have the 1st maintenance schedule done by the dealership.. Its the last time theyll do any maintenance on my bike ! !

My dealership hasn't been the best, but I have to say that I got a coupon for free labor for my 1K service when I bought my Buell. When I presented this coupon they also gave me the parts, including Syn3 synthetic oil, for free.

Wish I had that coupon 07xb12scg...

After hearing this, I am going to go in and get the service manual and give it a go myself. As long as I do not have to touch valves or adjust anything scary...I'm fine with it.

I'm just over 1k right now (1030ish..) so I want to get it done now.

Anyone have a good place to get the service manual or just go through the dealership?

--- I just saw the other topic on this so forget about that question ---

Thanks for all the help guys!

Mr. 04 Buell here:
Dales in Mt Vernon Illinois gives you one year Free Service. I don't ride as much as my husband does so I only got one free deal but he got 2 since he put on several miles the 1st year. I have to admit that we look at this as a "bonus " when we look at buying bikes there.
Now that the Free service is over though, he does it for us. It's not worth the 200.00 they charge.

Stampy, dont panic you will do fine and if you get stuck...your in the right place. There is a wealth of knowledge from people here who do ALL their own service. I refuse to let them work on my bike. I have 14k on my 2006 and have done all the maint. and it runs great like angry monkey.
Most HD Dealers want and will try to a$$ rape you every time if they get the chance.

No.
Save all receipts and document all of your work in the owner's manual or separate log.

One last question before I get on this this weekend...Is there a difference in the '03 service manual vs the '07? I have an '07 xb9sx.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Some significant transmission changes between 03 and 07, and an oil pump difference, and a oil pump pinion gear difference, and some internal bearings are now different.

Lots probably the same as well though...
