No. The bike doesn't look like cookware and they weren't scrubbing it as such.

Nah, we IT folks enjoy it as much as you do : ) If they question it, simply say you were looking at the bike for it's modifications like the cheese grater elimination...

(I had a hard time finding any modifications for some reason)

You can tell the bike wash in Hackaday's photos wasn't at a Harley dealer. Why? Because there are no disturbingly bleached blondes who are tanned into leather. Plus, there are no stretch marks, C-section scars, disgusting tattoos, and they're all under 40! Oh and none of them are over 200 pounds!
