The only dissention I ever received was from my mother, who would ask on every possible occasion when I was going to get rid of "the bike"? To which I promissed I would...to get a bigger one. And I did. And she quit asking. ;)

Stop riding your bike to Grandmas house, church, and bingo/shuffle board night.

Look at these people and see what ignorant things they do, like smoking, drinking and driving, medications they use and still drive, do they use cell phones while driving slow in the fast lane. Point out as necessary. Then politely tell them "eat my shorts".

It's not the motorcycle that's dangerous. It's the car that pulls in front of the motorcycle that's dangerous.

"Thanks, I'll try to be careful," works reasonably well.

That's usually my response.

There's really not much you can say that will have any real impact. I generally just let it drop, with the understanding that most of these folks say the things they do out of concern for my safety. It's nice to be loved...

My response...

"Oh, you'd get killed. If I thought I'd get killed... I'd go ahead and let you ride it now."

"Stop riding your bike to Grandmas house, church, and bingo/shuffle board night."

Overgeneralization for sure. Dad, a mostly retired 71 years young minister, rides his race-kitted Buell Thunderbolt to church quite often. He rides it on calls too. The folks get a real kick out of it.

And shuffleboard is quite the game of skill. ;)

My pro bike response is "I am just doing my part to reduce our dependence on foreign oil."

The old cliches work best but I usualy say I wouldn't worry so much if you just got off your cell phone, and when they give you that blank stare I say listen SHIPS ARE SAFE AT HARBOR....BUT THAT AINT WHAT SHIPS ARE FOR.... JACKAZZZ

I've never understood why people think motorcycles are inherently dangerous. My father, brother and uncles all rode (ride) bikes, and motorcycles have been in my family for more than 50 years, we've never had a problem.

I've been fortunate enough to take a few haterz on the back with me and when we returned it's always the same reaction: "Heeey not bad, that was pretty good" etc.

To my mind, bikes are safer in many situations. In my car I feel more at risk from the idiosyncrasies of other road users, but on my bike I take advantage of its responses and agility to stay well out of trouble.
