Installed right side air scoop from Rob Crins today. What a differance it makes.Fan only comes on when I shut the bike off and it has been in the 80's. The MOCO should take a look at this.
Anyone interested in getting one from Rob, here is his email r.crins@gmx.net

I guess with the warm weather coming everyone's got the same idea. I just install CF RSS from American Sport Bike last week end. Subjectively, the heat to the right thigh seems less and the fan did not come on when I shut the bike down. First time ever that's happened. Some postings on RSS on other sites are concerned the rear cylinder may get too cool with the RSS.

I tried taking some pics but something is wrong with the camera. The rss looks factory. It looks identical to the left side.
Regarding the rear cylinder not getting hot enough concern,
1) Heat kills everything!
2) If the front cylinder is at the optimum heat range sticking out in fresh cool air doesn't it stand to reason that the rear cylinder would benefit from the same amount of fresh cool air and maybe need more seeing how the heat from the front cylinder is blowing back onto the rear cylinder.

Too cool????? The fan still runs when the ignition is first turned off so I am not worried about too cold. If the fan never ran then I would think too cool.

It was me who raised the question about the rear cylinder MAYBE running too cool, which is why I asked a forum member with a suitable surface contact thermometer to measure head temperatures with the stock system and again with his RC right side scoop fitted. The first set of measurements are in and the second should be very soon. Depending on the results I'll either fit a scoop or not. Until then the benefits of a right side scoop to the rear cylinder is uncertain. There is a temperature sensor on the rear head only and another in the airbox which provide info to the ECU to help it decide on the fuel/air mixture. If the rear cylinder is made to run too cool it could alter the mixture.

The heat felt on your inner right thigh is largely from the proximity of the header exit from the rear cylinder and a right side scoop will definitely help there, but is it a good idea if it upsets other things? Only those actual head measurements will indicate that.

The Service Manual sets out the temperatures the fan is set to start and stop at. Key on and engine at operating temperature the fan comes on at 220C and goes off at 180C. Key off with hot engine it comes on at 170C and goes off at 150C. That suggest to me that an ideal operating temperature would be about 190C. If the fan doesn't come on when the key is first turned off it indicates that the temperature has been below 150C which is too cool.

Assuming a right side scoop will not be bad for the engine and good for comfort, the Rob Crins scoop does look to me to be the one to go for because it looks great and is very well made and finished.

At the moment I find that just angling my right knee out a few degrees when things get uncomfortable does the trick.

Remember also that you won't get benefit from any scoop unless you're moving forward, which means not during stop/start city riding.

I'm all for modifying a bike if it improves it, but not just spending money and adding weight if the benefit is an illusion.

Forgot to add that more airflow can't be forced in unless there's also a way for the air to escape. For 15 years I used to design, build and fly RC aircraft with aircooled motors and the rule of thumb for cooling them was for the air inlet to be half that of the outlet. Applying that principle to the Buell, where does the additional air collected by a right side scoop get out? Answer may be that only some of it does by pressurising the air trying to escape by the original path.
