I recently had an overhaul done on my XBR. The dealership technician apparently doesn't believe in locktight. Sliding back into the saddle while cruising on the highway, I felt the trunk lid dis-lodge. Fearing I'd lose the lid, I went to pull over quickly, but oddly the rear brake didn't work. It seems that without lock tight, the two bolts for the trunk locking mechanism and the rear fastener bolt on the rear caliper rattled out. I found the two bolts sitting in the trunk pan. The caliper bolt is now lost somewhere in Jackson NJ. The caliper rotated forward, pivoting on the front bolt because of wheel motion/inertia. I was forced to ride home 20 miles with half my brakes! So now I am forced to rebuild the caliper because of wearing damage from the pads wedged on top of the rotor from the ride. Yee-Haw!

p.s.
I still put 200 miles on it today without the rear set up!

Sorry to hear that. Why did your bike need an overhaul? How many miles? That is why I do my own service work.

It was stolen last September, dumped off, and recovered by the police. USAA didn't total it. It was repaired. Basically everything new except for the motor/tranny. It's getting to the point where I don't trust it to ride it!

Sorry to hear some low-life did that to you. Even worse two low-lives.
If there is anything I don't trust (through experience) it's someone els touching my bike. Have you noticed that many times, that is when things start to go wrong????? I have worked in garages (got sacked as I wouldn't cut corners to save time etc). They say that if you have ever worked in a burger factory you don't eat burgers again, well......
....Fulgur.

Take 'er back and have 'em do it all over.
