So the check engine light on my 12R goes off after the fuel pump does it's deal like it is supposed to, but it comes back on and stays on after a couple seconds. The bike seems to be running fine, but I haven't heard the fan for a while. I'm not sure if the fan hasn't been on because I put a right side scoop on, or if the fan is out causing the engine light to be on. How can I check the fan other than letting the bike idle till I think the fan should come on? Thanks for the help! |

Did you check the error code yet? |

The shop manual gives the technique of checking error codes, and it is covered in the Knowledge Vault as well. However, if you have reason to suspect the fan is not working, or may have shorted, the first thing to do is to check the fuse box, which indicates which circuit the fan is on. If that doesn't show anything, you might check the rest of the fuses. If that doesn't show anything, it is time to check the error codes. Basically, you jump two wires in a dedicated grey plug, and then count the number of times the engine light blinks. I forget the rest of the details, but it is pretty straightforward. Even a caveman could do it, ( with a bit of practice). Good luck. (Message edited by gentleman_jon on April 24, 2007) |

I've checked everything short of the error codes. I was wondering if I can trick the fan in to coming on. I guess I need to find a manual and check the error code. The bike is running great, but I'm thinking something is up with the fan. It should at least be coming on when I shut the bike off. Luckily it has been really cool in KC. I wouldn't even be riding it if I hadn't wrecked my car last week. I have to get to work, so the bike is still in service. |

James, You could disconnect the fan from the main wire harness and jumper a couple of wires from the battery terminals to the fan plug. If there is nothing wrong with the fan it should spin right up with 12v applied to it. The connection should be under the seat |
