Hey guys, Im running the buell race air filter on my xb9s, which I purchased about a year ago. What's the best way to maintain these, and about how often is it good to replace them? Thanks in advance. -984gasm | ||

by re-charge, you mean replace? And there doesn't seem to be any oily residue on my filter, which I'm assuming means it shouldn't get oiled? Sorry for the ignorance... | ||

Recharge is not replace. A Recharge maintenance system is designed to restore any K&N Air Filter. Restores air flow efficiency so your Filter performs like new! Mine is a K&N filter I got with my race kit. Is it a K&N filter? Or this new "race" filter. | ||

Official Bad Web Air Filter Color Codes: K+N ( Former BuellPro Series Race Filter) = pink color ( This is the only one that can be "recharged") New Buell Pro Series Race filter = grey color, black gasket. Stock filter = white color, blue gasket  | ||

mine is the white/blue.. I was under the impression it was the pro series filter.. Could they have changed colors recently? | ||

I have the blue and white pro air cleaner also. I was told to just wash it with soapy water....I am not sure if that is correct or not. (Message edited by lost_in_ohio on April 23, 2007) | ||

if it's a paper filter it's a throw-away. if it has a folded wire screen with encased fabric it's clean-able . | ||

Thanks everyone for the input. It is the fabric, so I guess I'll go and order some of the K&N Air Filter Cleaner. Also, so on average, replace around every 10k or so? | ||

for stock filter: manual says "Inspect, service as required" every 5k Replace every 20k. If you ride on dusty roads I would replace/recharge more frequently. (Message edited by barker on April 23, 2007) | ||

I just visually inspect, clean out any debri (pro race filter) you can use a soft brissle brush and the soapy water method if it sees a lot of dust and dirt. | ||

984 Don't use the K&N stuff on the Blue and white filter. | ||

Here's an even simpler answer. Chuck the old paper filter and replace it with a new paper filter. Now you don't have to deal with the time and money to wash, clean, rinse, dry (wait), wait some more, wait some more, alright it's finally dry, oil, oops, too much oil, dab off, let sit to permeate, wait some more, dab off, install... Some like to do this much work for an air filter, but I like to ride instead of cleaning filters, so I switched back to paper and I know my engine breathes much cleaner air! Before buying a K&N I'd recommend plenty of research... some love 'em, some consider them a waste. Up to you... | ||

If you are around dusty, dirty conditions I wouldn't recommend the K&N. More air gets past and so does some other stuff. I'd go with what Sloppy said. Keep the stock one. I have the pro race kit with the stock air filter. Runs great! | ||
