Check for the usual... Oil leaks, abuse, worn tires, has the bike been down, what kind of service has it received, etc... I have an '04 XB12S. The XB is a good bike and the price you're lookin' at is great! Good luck... I'm pullin' for ya!

Congratulations on your new bike. Sounds sweet.

In addition to what Tunes said, I would just put these items on your "to do " list.

1. Change the tires. The stock units are probably just about worn out by now. Replace them with better tires such as Dunlop Qualifiers, Michelin Pilot Power or Pirelli Diablos. Do not replace them with the Dunlop 208s the bike came with. Makes a world of difference in the bikes handling.

2. If not fitted, put on a pair of "frame Pucks" to protect the frame in case the bike falls.

3. Change the oil, filter, and Primary oil just to be sure. Lots of members are happy with Mobil 1 in the motor, 15W50, and Harley Formula + in the primary chain case.

4. Set up the suspension for your weight according to the owners manual, or the aggressive setting available on this site in the Knowledge Vault if you are planning on doing a bit of speeding. These bikes are more sensitive to other bikes to suspension set up because of their short wheelbase and steep fork angle.

5. Tire pressures: 36 front 38 rear.

6. If you planning on working on the bike yourself, which is highly recommended, You might want to order the shop manual and parts book, from one of our sponsors.
By the way, the sponsors of this site are a good place to get OEM parts, as well as aftermarket accessories of every type.

7. Make sure the battery cables are tight.

8. Once you have all that done, jump on your new bike and get yourself some good protective gear.

PS: Keep an eye on the Jardine. Many of the members have reported relatively short life for those units. The bike just shakes them apart.

Does it have a Race ECM or a stocker? If it still has the stocker then with that air filter and Jardine its been running lean. That could be bad. Definately ride it before you buy it.

He did say it was fouling the plugs. Would that be causing it?

It look nice and the pipe sounded great! He replaced all the fluids at 2400. It will need tires sooner rather than later. And it was dropped cracking the inner fairing/structure piece close to the turn signal mount. Im guessing it did dent up the frame a little but it had pucks on it so I was unable to see any damage.

That's a really good deal. I've seen lots of XB's go for more than that.

According to what ive been reading here alot, its because of the intake and exhaust mods causing the bike to run lean. A race ECM should prevent this.

most times, the fouling plug thing is due to starting the bike and not taking it for a ride. Starting it up for prospective buyers and then blipping the throttle so they can hear the pipe is probably the cause.
Buells, especially the 12s, like to be started, left alone(no throttle blipping) to warm up and then taken for a long ride.

Yeah, xb has a rich idle circuit. If its just started and then hut off without riding it it will foul plugs.
