So I've had the bike now for a couple months ('06 xb12scg) and I've had it in to the dealer twice. Once at 500 miles, and a second time for the first service at 1000. It has been running IMO poorly since I got it. It goes better now since I have had the TPS reset for the second time, however, when you giev the bike throttle the revs fall back down very slowly. Not matter whether you pull the clutch or not, and at about 2000 to 1000 rpm fall it takes seconds to come down. Now this is my first v-twin, but my friends friggin cruisers rev better. Whats the deal?

I could be wrong, but it sounds like a bad TPS reset. I'm not pointing a finger at anyone, but does the person doing the TPS reset know what he is doing? Any other mods?

Your idle is set to high. Your bike needs to be ridden and good and warmed up then the idle set at 1050. If above that your idle will hang for a brief moment then go down. Where is the bike idling now when warmed up??

Set your idle a little lower. You will notice that the revs will drop faster when you release the throttle.

Thats what I was thinking, asked them to reset it. It was at about 1100, now is at 1000-1050 warmed up. How low can I drop it? Can I do it myself? No mods, btw, and two Tps resets in 500 miles. Thanks guys.

My 0612R did that for about the first 1500 miles or so, then gradually it "corrected" itself. I attributed it to the motor being new, I understand the oil tolerances in these motors are fairly tight.

At any rate, it's fine now revs up and down as fast as any other 12 I've heard.

Idle too high +1. Mine was the same. Warm it up and back the idle down just a touch. It's actually quite sensitive.

+1 on the high idle, back your adjuster screw off a little. Its on or around page 25 in your owners manual.

Yep, my idle (Uly) was hesitating coming down. I think I had raised the idle a little and then the weather got a little cooler and I would come to a stop sign and the idle would float slowly down. Weird. Someone said to lower the idle a bit and it worked. I had mine at about 1050 and dropped it to about 1000 and the problem vanished.

What an easy fix for something that seemed a bit alarming when happening.

It's one of the little quirks we deal with.
The throttle is very sensitive to adjustment.

I've had the same thing happen after TPS resets, even with a correct idle setting. It took numerous rides and key cycles for it to settle back to idle quickly. It also happened when riding after big changes in ambient temperature.

Buell went their own way with this injection system, so there a a few "ideosyncracies". See my thread on issues with atlitude and closed loop adjustment.

Don't worry, be patient, make sure idle is set correctly, and eventually it will find it's own way. It can just take a while to learn sometimes.

Kpg, is your idle hanging when it comes down. Like almost stopping at 1.5-2K rpm? If so your idle is a tad bit high. Warm the bike up and adjust the idle to where the tach needle is just slightly above the 1K line.

My bike just recently started to do this after 10K miles. I took it over to Baltimore HD and Scott, the service manager, said he's seen a sudden increase of XB's with this problem. He thought it might be caused by a recent reformulation of the gasoline in our area. In any case, I do believe he fired off an email to Buell about it.

Veeeryy interesting.

Hammer just reset my TPS at MB IV. Bike ran perfect, including idle. Hammer said to ride it hard after the reset.

Then I got back up north, and the temp was about 30 or 40 degrees cooler, and the thing started to hang on idle.

I reset the idle adjustment a bit, down to 1000 rpm, and every thing seems to be ok.

I didn't know that a change in temperature could cause the idle to hang, but now I know.

Ain't bad web grand?

I had the same issues with my 12r and I had to throw on a brand new TPS it was a 70 dollar part with that much in labor but it fixed my idle issue.

Well thats what the dealer said. THey said that the reset wouldnt hold so they had to put on a brand new TPS.
I have replaced the TPS on a car before but never on a bike so I havent a clue what it actually entails. All I know is I spent 150 for a total 70parts 80labor. The bike runs great now minus the issues with my airbox now

Mine did the same thing after a TPS reset. It turned out to be the idle being set too high. I tried it my self as a last resort before taking it back to the dealer. It was more than a full turn too high. It's at about 1050rpms now and runs perfect. no more hanging throttle.

I have reset my TPS many times, using direct link and the idle still takes awhile to come down from 2K. I've also fooled with the idle quite a bit too. How much does everyones idle fluctuate? Mine goes from around 900 to 1080 rpm. I think I could cure the hanging by lowering it more but I don't want to set it too low. Any suggestions? How can I test my Throttle Position Sensor to see if it maybe needs relacing? Voltage?
