The belt on my `06 Uly has shifted off the rear pulley 1/16th of an inch. The "valleys" between the teeth on the belt have small cracks across them. The cracks are not deep. Almost like a coating of some type is cracked. The teeth on both pulleys look ok. The idler pulley seems ok, but I did not remove it, or the belt to check it. Is this normal? The bike has 5000 miles on it. Thanks |

My 06 City X always had a bit of a gap between the belt and the back of the pulley. I was Told this was normal, but never had cracks in the belt |

The Dealer gave me the `ol "Don`t worry about it". The cracks are from a coating on the belt I believe. They are not deep. I looked at a few XB`s at the dealer, some used some new, and the belt was not hanging over the edge of the rear pulley at all. I don`t know if I`m just paranoid. |

No movement or cracks here. |

Bottom line, it didn't come like that, so something's obviously out of alignment. As for the belt cracks, I've got a belt with 10,000 miles on my 05 and it still looks like a new belt. |

OOOF! How many miles were on that belt? Was it a result of abuse or racing? |

Well, that certainly answered my question. I`m glad to hear you didn`t get hurt. That could of been a disaster. It also leaves a crappy feeling in my stomach.I`m going to check the idler pulley, like the service manual says.I tried to attach picts, but had problems. I`m dumb with these things. |

both of my xb's walk the belt out a bit when pushing backwards, but only a little then stay in that spot. roll them back forwards and the walk back on. |

Mine does the opposite. If I roll back, the belt is flush with the rear pulley. move foward, it`s off the pulley 1/16th of an inch. I checked the idler pulley with a dial indicator and it checks OK. I guess I`ll just ride `till it breaks or wears out. Crappy feeling when your hundreds of miles from home. |

I guess I`ll just ride `till it breaks or wears out. Very few Buell rider ever get any kind of warning when their belt is about to go bye-bye. You sir, are receiving a loud & clear warning. with that tracking problem and those cracks, I would not ride that bike on a dare! If it's an 06' it must be covered by your 2 year unlimited mile warranty right? Get it covered/repaired. If the dealer tells you that that is normal, then you need a different dealer! That's a timebomb ticking. |

I checked the idler pulley for excessive play, and it is fine. The bearings roll smooth. I guess I`ll just ride it until it breaks. It still gives me an uneasy feeling though. |

That belt is a "lifetime" belt, take it (the whole bike) to your dealer, and get another belt. |

It is definitley time for a different dealer. It is still under warranty. I can`t stand being told somethings OK, when it isn`t. Thanks |

Looking at the wear on the belt itself I'd say somethings out of alignment. The "cracks" look ok to me, but the uneven wear would have me taking a look at stuff. |

If you're going to have the dealer check the belt, have them look at the motor mounts too. If you have mounts going bad they may be hanging at their limits letting the engine/trans hang a little off spec letting the belt ride out. |

It still gives me an uneasy feeling though. It should. Mine wore unevenly like that too. It would go right to the cords on one side. But hey, no adjustment is possible. Great design. Saintly helped me to go chain. Otherwise I'd have had to give up on the bike. I will not ride knowing that it is only a matter of time before I get stranded. |

I`ll suggest it to the dealer, good point. I made an appointment with a different dealer today. He is actually going to look at it. Unlike the last dealer who said, "aw, it`s ok", without even looking at it. For anyone in the New Jersey area, Liberty H-D/Buell seems to be the place to go. Thanks everyone! |

Liberty is active with Buells, should be a good experience. |

I`ll give you a big hint. They are in Bergen County, NJ. They just don`t speak Buell. Even with easy stuff I had problems with them. I think I`m done with them. |
