Well, I've been reading the board for a little while trying to make a decision on what I would like to upgrade to...I am currently on a GS500F and am definitely ready for a little more of a bike. My decision is the XB9SX.

Quick question tho. What should I consider for normal accessories from the dealership. There are a few things I will change quickly as I dont like the goofy handle bar covers and the huge "cheese grater"...

But what I was looking at was the different seat. I have pretty short legs so I was thinking of getting either the low seat or the street fighter seat...What is the difference between the two? I really cant tell on their site and havent seen any in person.

Any other accessories I should contemplate...It will have to sit outside so i think i would like to get their cover...but dont necessarily want to advertise what is underneath...

Thanks and happy riding to all!

There is little available directly from Buell. Check the American Sport Bike site for stuff, they are great to deal with and have a lot of Buell toys Just recently got the Select seat from Buell for my 06 City X. The fit was so poor I returned it and got my money back. Welcome to Bad Web and enjoy the City X

Get frame pucks first! Have the dealer throw them in like I did.

And what are the "goofy handle bar covers" you're talking about?

Of course, save yourself some money for exhaust and FI tuning. I'm currently contemplating which exhaust I want!

Pucks are added to the list. Great suggestion. I always forget stuff that important...

The hand guards for the City X. I really just don't like them.

I will eventually get the exhaust and tuning, but I want to ride it at factory and break in first...Anything will be a lot faster then what I'm used to.

Stampy - why dont you just opt for a xb12scg - its lower no hand guards & slightly faster + some cool colors.
I've just had the city X for a few months & am trading mine for a 12scg - I love the feel of the scg & the riding position really suits my size 5ft 7" ( just )

Get a drummer & you are set !

The main reason I am not thinking of the xb12scg is the price difference. I'll be squeezing to get the city X the extra cost is just not what I want to think about...

Second minor reason is I don't want that much of a bigger motor. I prefer quickness vs speed and my understanding is that is the difference in the two motors. I don't want break neck speed just...a minor fracture speed.

Pucks come on the XB9SX from the factory.

The hand guards are highly functional. If you really don't want them, they should be easy to sell here.

I can ride to work now down to 28 degrees F (good gear, but not heated, about a 20 mile one way commute on 55mph back roads). 43 or so degrees F was about as cold as I felt safe without the hand guards.

these hand guards are functional but not essential.
I dont see any other bikes in London ( its cold here) with hand guards apart from my 9sx.A friend of mine has a speed triple & another has an R1 - they travel at higher speeds than me down the motorway & no complaints about cold hands.
Get some inners for yer gloves mate & feel the wind - thats what naked streetfighters are about ..

i got some pucks thrown in on my new 12scg - they def will add protection for stoopid tip overs.

I have about 50 miles on my 07 SX and note some of the same wishes as Stampy. I ordered the low seat when I got the bike and immediately removed the handguards ( just not into the look). I also have some bar end mirrors ready for installation, but haven't gotten to it yet. Removed passenger pegs and am lining up a cheesegrater mod soon. Drummer next. Not dissatisfied at all with the bike...I love it...but now it is my own.

I transitioned from a similar motorcycle. I was riding a 1989 GS500E until the whole bike shutdown on the interstate. The XB9SX does provide a lot more power. It's especially noticeable at higher speeds. With the Suzuki, I could stand up flat-footed and not even touch the seat. I can barely stand flat-footed on the Buell. It takes a little bit of getting used to the height difference.

The first night I tried to take the handguards off, and they ended up being a little bit more trouble than I thought. It wasn't as easy as just unscrewing a nut or two. As it turns out, the bolts that secure the handguards also go through the clutch and front brake levers. After a little cutting with a hacksaw, you can get it to work nicely though.

I was also afraid of the cheese grater tailpiece because of the online pictures, but it's much less conspicuous in person. After I removed the dorky reflectors, I'm not even considering a modification. It's just a matter of opinion...

one comment on the hand guards - the first time some dumb a$$ opens a door as you ride by and clips you with mirror ( or the corner of the door), you'll be happy you have them. lane splitting offers the same opportunity for split knuckles vs the hand guards doing their thing.

ditto tipovers - even if you dont crash, using a bike in a city enviroment, things can 'happen' when its parked. the hand guards will leave you a clutch and brake lever to get you home.

CityScreen (1/2 cover) is a nice touch for commuting, and you can put it on with the pipes still hot.

if you ride at night, you'll want to add driving lights to see, and be seen.

Stampy, to answer your question about the differences between the Low seat and the Streetfighter seat...
I have both. The Low seat sits you down lower to the ground and makes the bike look more contoured, but at the cost of comfort. It's pretty hard compared to the Streetfighter seat.

The Streetfighter is a great seat and I recommend it to everyone who has a Lightning. It sits lower than a standard seat, but not quite as low as the Low seat. It's comfortable and looks killer, in my opinion.

I have pics on my myspace page of both seats. I'd post them on here, but I don't know how to size down the pics for uploading.

I've seen Fravel's bike in person.
That is THE coolest Buell I've ever seen.
Pics don't do it justice.

+1 for the "goofy handle bar covers"

I live out in the country, so every trip is a trip at speed and there are TONS of bugs.

Translation - No more sticky fingers!

Sometimes function takes priority.

Hey thanks guys! Good info.

Sticky fingers....amen Fravel! That is ALWAYS a good sign ; )

After talking to the dealer I was just going to go with the CG's seat on the City X.

They let me take the 12SCG out for a quick ride and I gotta tell you I was grinning ear to ear!! Very excited now. I will be signing everything and getting the bike on Friday.

Thanks for the help and your list of accessories is being take down Fravel! That is what I'm looking for!

You didn't go there!

Let me check your bike picture again to make sure you still have the passenger pegs...

Fravel - BTW, the club meets Saturday noon, at Bloomington HD-B. (Second Sat. of each month) The weather looks like it'll be crappy, but hopefully you can make it again one of these days!

Shawn,
Actually that pic is from January and currently there are no passenger pegs on it and there are more new parts. I am planning on getting some new shots of it in the near future from my buddy who is a photographer. His payment is I'm gonna let him take it for a ride.
I'd love to make it down for a meeting or two this summer. I have met two buell buddies from Marion and we'll make a trip down at some point. We will definately be coming down for this summer's ride out of Bloomington. I'm stoked, last year was a blast. Also, us 3 are going to Homecoming this summer. My one buddy is out of the country for work at the moment. When he returns, we are going to start planning our trip and I was going to contact my fellow Hoosier Buellers outta Bloomington to see who else is making the trip. I've already talked to Indybueller a bit and he says he's going this year. I think it'd be cool if we could all stay in the same place.
