my philosophy in life used to be cycles,cigars and cex. the 3 c's of life. now that i quit smoking that changed to cycles, cex and more cycles(not in any particular order either) so just as long as i keep the wife involved
she is fairly happy which means we stay fairly happy together. god was that fun. get the bike. do you know how many women are out there who like to ride. |

Im glad I posted this, its been like therapy. Thanks for the ideas and sharing your experiences.
Okay, we talked more this weekend and I think she's feeling a little better about it. Although she wont be thrilled about me getting a bike she understands how much I enjoy them.
I brought up the MSF class, and she said she'd feel better if Id take it. I told her Id get the best gear I could afford, offer to pay as much of the bike with freelance money (if anyone needs any design/advertising/logos, I use to do work for Buell, just let me know). Going to get a used bike, 1: to save a little money and 2: incase it doesnt work I wont lose my rear. And I offered to sign up for some additional life insurance.
I also told her I wouldnt ride at night until I took the class and I wont ride with my bar hopping Harley buddies. Come on, I mean, Buells are meant for riding and thats all I want to do.
So Im looking for a XB12 R or S (would consider a 9) if you guys no of any within travel distance from the northeast corner of Indiana.

Maybe next year I'll get to ride more, and we can ride.

i can't say enough how great it was meet every one that i did glitch. next year i'm gonna take more time off to enjoy it more. gotta envy you guys up there to be able to ride those rodes every day. |

Life is short and if you're not having fun and doing what makes YOU happy then what in the hell is the point of you wasting your time being on this planet? I'm serious. Too many people do things or don't do things to make other people, including spouses and it makes me sick. Your wife will get over your purchase of a bike IF she truely loves you. Then again, if she TRUELY loved you she wouldn't try to keep you away from something that you are passionate about.
Some of you will flip at that response and tell me that's not how relationships work. Well, obviously you can't disagree on everything or you wouldn't be a couple anymore, but there are certain things that you will do that will not make your spouse happy, but they'll get over it. I'm sure you compromise with her wants and needs all the time. Isn't it about time she compromises on one of your biggest wants/needs?! |

I lucked out - my wife grew up on the back of her dad's bike and was into it as much as I was, if not more. We both took the MSF course the same weekend (at separate locations) back in 2000. She had actually tried to buy me a 1995 S2 for the previous Christmas but couldn't swing the finances at the time by herself. That spring the same bike was still for sale and it was mine! She started on a 92 K75S. I've had a couple more bikes since then (only one at a time) and last November I bought her another BMW for her birthday - so now she has more than me!
She lets me have my time when I need it. She gives me crap when I go on and on about bikes (like when the new models are released, etc). We get a sitter for the little one (still too young at the moment) and we go riding together, her on her own. She will not ride on the back (she went down when she was 13 and now needs to be in control).
I know it's been posted before, but I'm glad she rides her own - otherwise I'd have no way to get all our stuff to the rallies!
Here she is six months pregnant on our way to Mass:

When I met my husband and found out he rode motorcycles, boy was I excited. Went out and bought my 800cc Marauder. Sold it bought a SV650 and now I have my xb12scg.
We were without bikes for part of a summer while building a house, but had to get another one as was having withdrawal. Went two up for the rest of that summer until I said "No more" I need my own bike.

I've really enjoyed reading this thread. I had a Kawi Ninja when I met my wife in college. She pretended to like it up to the day I sold it to pay for school. A few years later I was graduated and making coin so I decided it was time for another. I hinted for months that I wanted one but it started a fight every time. If I looked at a motorcycle that was driving by I might as well have been looking at a Playboy Playmate. That's how pissed she would get. Well, she was on the road quite a bit auditing banks and hospitals and I wanted something to do after long days in the office so I called her up and told her I was buying a bike. She didn't talk to me for three days. The morning after the third night I got up to let the dogs out and she followed me out to the living room. She apologized for being a B**** and told me to get whatever I wanted.
Last week she told me I could get a Lotus Elise if I would give up the motorcycle...what would you do?

MrsG often runs me outta the house telling me what I need is a good ride. She's always right in that regard.
She used to ride with me, then lost interest shortly after we got married, and just recently got the bug once again, it's one of the reasons I got the R tail section.
She has no interest in riding her own bike, and realizes that sometimes I really need to ride alone, so it's all good.
I wouldn't know what I'd do if she hated bikes, but then again, we probably wouldn't have made it as far as marriage if she did.
I've always had bikes, ever since I was around 9, so bikes have always been a part of me. |

Jak: Tough decision, but you should consider a compromise. Keep the bike and get a less-expensive alternative to the Lotus. I love bikes and cars equally, so I bought a new G35 Coupe, then I bought my XB12S used with 1200 miles on it, and I kept my 2000 F150 for a daily driver.

Well I asked her if she'd be interested in taking the MSF course with me and she said hell no. But I think at least by me asking her, it helps. She seems to be getting use to the idea a little more. For the last few nights Ive been sitting at the computer trying to dig up bikes for sale so she knows its only a matter time until I find the right one. |

I used to have to resort to riding my wife's S2T - 'cause she'd swiped the Road King for it's luggage capacity!
I am unable to get my wits around what it must be like having a spouse that's not "into" bikes, even enough to be at least tolerant of my enthusiasm for them.
Understanding is comprised of communication, affinity and commonality of viewpoints. If there is a difference of view on something there is usually that much less liking for the other,and willingness to talk it out.
Keep talking to her - get her to really state what objections are and handle them as they arise - you are definitely heading the right direction.
Maybe SHE has some liking or hobby that you could support her in, and make it a win-win deal!

Okay, the bike was pretty nice 2800 miles, one owners, Jardine pipe, black with Amber rims. The only problem with it was it was dropped and cracked the housing/structure in the fairing, and Im guessing it dented the frame. I couldnt tell it had pucks, but for $5500 it seemed pretty nice.
I did check out a super clean 02 Cyclone, PM wheels, orange frame and silver tank. 4200 miles. $4500

get the cyclone, if the wife decides that she wants to ride than it will be better for you, and if not then you'll still have alot of fun with it. besides that, this is eriks favorite color scheme. and if you can, try and talk him down to sweeten the deal a little. found my buddies 02m2 for 3500 with 2600 miles on it back in sept. |

Neverenuf & Glitch, any other reason I should really consider the Cyclone over the XB other than a passenger? Ill never get the wife on the bike anyways. But Ive always loved the tube frame bikes to.
He's firm at $4500. Not a scratch on the bike, maintenence is up to date and a new back tire. I could get into this bike and ride, needs nothing where as the XB needs new tires and that fairing structure fixed.
Thanks again. Plus it might make the purchase easier being a grand less, seeing I need all the gear also! |

get the m2, she'll come around one day hopefully. just don't push the issue cause then that will push her away. first she'll see how much attention the m2 gets from other people and see how great it is to be different then eventually come on over to the dark side. pretty soon she wants to take the riders edge course and you'll be looking at getting that xb that you wanted. this will give her that option though. |

Ride. You will have fun. That will make you happy. Happy people are fun to be around. There are risks, but they can be minimized by skill and wisdom. The risks of boredom or unhappiness cannot be minimized, however. A year ago, my mom told me that her only regrets had been the things she'd wished she'd done. Ten minutes later, she was gone.
