Got this fun one for you all. Ok, ride bike all day and find that if I turn the handlebars to the right (almost to the stop) the headlights turn off. Both low and high beam. This includes the high beam indicator light. I turn the bar back to the left and they come back on. Now, I've tried to make this happen while the bike is cold, but can't seem to get it to happen. I've found it only happens when I get the bike warm. I did try searching for a break in the wire. I pulled the harness out from the guide on the forks and found nothing. No signs of breaks or arks. Now, I did notice recently that my high beam flasher switch isn't working, which makes me think there's corrosion on it (not the first time, quick fix with cleaner), so I'm wondering if there cause could be in the housing. Although, I don't see how since that area doesn't move. I did look for moving wires under the fly screen and could only see the main harness move a bit while turning it from left to right. Ideas? Experience? Anything? | ||

I know on the S the harness is prone to rubbing right under the little plastic piece that holds it to the neck. it is a PITA to get it off with out pulling the whole headlight/flyscreen asm. off but you can get it. | ||

What about the harness that goes into the headlight switch? Could it be hung up somewhere pulling it from the switch? Just a possibility. Good luck. (Message edited by darkducati on March 28, 2007) | ||

I had a similar problem. Whenever I turned left I lost dash, tail/brake lights, and directionals due to a blown fuse. I got out my service manual and studied the wiring diagrams. Eventually I found the metal tabs that hold the seat to the frame in the tail section had lost their non-conductive coating and had worn through one of the directional wires. Whenever I used the left directional it caused a short. It was an easy fix once located, but would have been costly to have someone else track down the problem. I hope your issue proves as simple to remedy. |
