Why does Buell use quality materials everywhere but in the muffler?? Why does my bike, less than two years old, have a completely rusty muffler?? I've never seen Harleys with rusty mufflers. Hell, my BMW K1200LT is eight years old with 104,000 miles on it, and I still have the original, rust-free muffler on that bike! Does ANYBODY make a replacement muffler for the Buell XB12Ss that is nearly as quiet as stock, uses the active exhaust servo, can be used as a jacking point AND is made of STAINLESS STEEL?? ANYBODY?? |

Jaimec, take it off blast it and repaint it, the stock ones are chemically etched for adhesion and most etching chemicals contain alot of water in the mix and rinsing so theres the problem....thats what happens when you raise production, each individual piece doesn't get the needed attention.....if you need my help let me know... |

I don't have the skills or the tools necessary. I'll have to see if there's a local shop that can do this... |

Jaimec, please check out Kevin Drum's stainless steel Drummer muffler. I have a regular Drummer and love it and his stainless one is supposed to be even nicer. Unfortunately, there is apparently a several month backlog for them. http://www.kdfab.com/drummer%20ss.htm |

Mine started to rust as well. I pulled it off and sent it to HPC and got it ceramic coated. It cost me $55, it looks great, and it won't rust. I'd highly recomend it. I've also heard good things about jethot. |

I clean my bike every week weather I ride or not. I use this spray called GOOD STUFF, bought from the local H/D dealership. It seems to work really well on the muffler. I use it on my helmets too. It brings the color back to the slate grey. I did find a dent towards the back thats getting some rust. It's funny, I had this bike new, 6 miles when I bought it and I can't explain this dent. It looks like some one rode off a tall curb. It's just starting to show some rust. You can't see it unless you jet really low and look for it. |

Ceramic coating is the answer. Unfortunately that won't help if it gets beat up on the bottom though. You can get Jet hot in black now if that's your preference. For mine I just take it off every winter and spray it with Rustoleum BBQ grill paint. Your right though, it should be stainless or ceramic coated the factory. I have the same problem with the shiny buell race exhaust. I used nevr dull and it got most of the rust off. However, it appears that it could be shinier. Any suggestions on how to shine it and protect it?? Thanks sean |
