Hey guys, I have a xb12r w/ the race kit, and was curious on what may be the best plugs to get...? And from past posts I see you can get at the rear with a universal, how hard is it to get it back in without cross threading? Also, is Formula+ still a good choice for the primary fluid? I am getting the Mobil 1 gear oil out which I see has ben in question for a while... Thanks for the info as always! |

http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/PROD283.html I use the Iridium ones, no problems yet. For Primary fluid I like using HD Screaming Eagle Synthetic 20W-50. Fully covered by warranty and the preferred fluid. No problems there either. YMMV Sam |

oh and what I meant by preferred fluid is 20W-50 is the preferred primary fluid, not necessarily synthetic or HD brand. Sam |

The rear plug isn't too difficult with the right tool. I use a Snap-on 12" long 3/8 drive extension that has a swivel type end that goes in the socket. To install the plug I put anti-seize on the threads, a piece of masking tape across the socket end, stick the plug in the socket through the tape (to keep it from sliding out of the socket), put the socket on the wiggle flopper extension, start and screw the plug all of the way in by hand then put the ratchet on to tighten it. It is really quite easy after you've done a couple of times. I find the front plug is more of a pain due to having to wrench it. I use the "newer" Formula+. Some have had electrical problems using Mobil-1 in the trans. I ran the HD stock plugs in my City-X with the race kit and always had to keep spares at my shop, it would foul one once in a while on a cold damp day. I run them in my stock Uly and haven't fouled one yet. 10000 miles on the first set, and 3000 on the second so far. |

Definitely Iridium. I have noticed a surprising improvement in using Mobile 1, V-Twin 20/50, full synthetic in the primary! It STILL shifts like a Peterbilt, but it is noticeably smoother. It too, is Fully covered by warranty and the preferred fluid of racers. (Message edited by liquorbox on March 22, 2007) |

Th Denso Iridium plugs are great, or the NGK alternative to stock. I have run in my primary: H-D Syn3, Mobil1 20w-50 V-twin, Amsoil 20w-50 Vtwin, and now HD Forumla+. And honest to god Formula+ has been the smoothest shifting, and it's inexpensive. Even the XBRR which calls for Motul 300V in the crankcase runs Forumla+ in the primary. |

Autozone or Napa can usually get them, Autozone ordered them for me and had them by 12:00 pm the next day, and I live in a smaller college town. They are pricey, like $10-12 bucks a piece, but should last a long time and are more resistant to fouling. |

i just run the stock plugs. was running formula + then went to syn3. kept missing shifts with the syn3 in for some reason. thought it was odd it started when i changed fluids. put formula + back in. months later i rode the dragon HARD and was having problems with hard shifting. stopped by wheelers and he put some other synthetic in that seemed to work good. havent had a problem since. i need to call him and figure out what that was... |
