This past winter, I was forced to transport my bike in the back of my truck. Road salt got on the surfaces and has begun to corrode / discolor the header pipes. I remember seeing people who have polished or cleaned their headers. I don't want to get the polished look, but just want to restore them to their original appearance. Oh, this may affect your recommendations, I've got an XB9, so they've got the gold 'coating'. I really don't want to lose this. Thanks! Joe | ||

try some scotch-brite, but be gentle with it, i have used it on mine where bugs get baked on, and where a backpack strap melted to the pipe, and my gold color looked like it came off and after a few cycles of heating up and cooling down, it seemed to look uniform again. | ||

The gold color will never go away. You could buff it back to silver and she will start turning gold after a ride. | ||

I've been thinking of using a stainless wire wheel or maybe a stainless butterfly brush to remove the handprints left on the pipes by the person who installed the head pipes originally. I have never seen an XB with over 50 miles on it without these handprints. Ever. | ||

 Apply with paper towel. Briskly rub it in and then take it off with soft terry cloth. Trust me when I say paper towel. It has the abrasive with the compound to clean the metal. I learned this from the owner that makes a product that is just as good as Eagle One and that is the company Flitz. He was helpful to me at a family gathering that he was invited to of mine. It will cut your work by more then half the time.... I PROMISE!!! | ||

Bads1, I have wondered if FLITZ actually worked, have you any exp. w/it? Actually wondered about using it to remove some scratches in the pillion cover on my R. I'll be going the JetHot(blk) route for the header hopefully this summer. | ||

Ridrx, Actually Flitz is made not but 20 minutes from my house. It actually is a very very good product. They have several to choose from and pay attention to what they tell ya to do because it works. | ||

Is there a polish that will turn the header back to gold? Mine are blued really bad at the heads. I don't want chrome, just gold. | ||

I used Drake's (DTX) advice and polished my headers with sand paper. Started with 220, then 320, 400, 600 then 1000. After that i polished them with Mother's Billet polish. They were very bright silver and now they have heat cycled and turn a beautiful polished gold. Looks fantastic and they will keep their shine for quite a while. |
