Yes 1157 is the tail light and 1156 is the turn signals...  | ||

so a l.e.d. 1157 bulb would work in the tail light, right.? and then you could have an l.e.d. tail light for about 10 bucks. (Message edited by xbob on March 10, 2007) | ||

Yes, i would recommend that you get one of the newer led tail bulbs that has the most # of leds in it for greater visability... im in the process of changing out my turn signals on my uly for 1156 led ones so i dont have to worry about them burning out... 18 led facing back and 24 around the side, i bought them off of ebay... | ||

yea, i saw the clear ones on ebay and red ones at the local autozone. cheap easy upgrade. | ||

the only bad thing about using the LED bulbs is that no light shines on the license plate (if you've got a firebolt that also uses the taillight for a license plate light). | ||

led lights also will not utilize the reflector portion of the housing in the tail light lens so it will not be as bright, at least so i was told. the light will only appear as big as the led bulb instead of being as big as the entire light lens. I know someone that has them in his signals and they are much brighter but for the tail light it is not so. | ||

Pokinatcha most of the new brake light led's have side surrounding light too like ulyguy explained. For the reason of throwing light off of the stock reflector also. | ||

Yeah, I had those spinning ones in mind until someone explained to me the reflector thing. I didnt know they had some with lights around the outside edge and I'm probably not the only one who didnt know. Thanks for the input. | ||

LED lights are also much more directional - they are very bright if you are directly behind, but the light is much less bright if you are off to the side. I added a "back off" license plate frame with LEDs around it (that works as a second taillight), and it is much brighter than the stock taillight if you are straight on, but from even a bit off to the side the stock taillight looks brighter. That's why I have BOTH now! Better safe than sexy! | ||

I had to laugh, I was thinking about the Yosemite Sam double gun mudflap design that I see on redneck trucks all the time. Spit Mt Dew out my nose... ouch |
