It was brought to my attention today that there are certain throttle locks (cruise control) out there that work for Buells and alot that won't. If this has been already addressed, I'm sorry for regurgitating. The NEP model was found to be incorrect. The Trojan deal is to take one, don't unroll it, poke a hole in it, then pull it up over the grip and jam it in between the flange on the grip and the throttle housing. It will either give you a "suicide" (have to roll it shut) throttle or a "slow closer". Have you tried a Crampbuster? Only $10.95 and shipped for free. And you can put it in your pocket and walk away with it if you want. I've found the Crampbujster to be so subtle in use and your hand never gets tired. Of course, I have a Dyna so I have the stock thumb screw throttle lock too. I'm surprised that the MoCo lawyers have not banned those. I guess they are "unsporty" because they left them off the Buells. One Trojan not enough? Put two of them on! Forgot your Trojans? Looks like it's time for some hand work. Jack | ||

I have one of those "crampbuster" type deals on my Harley too, don't have a thumb screw on mine. I don't like the thumb screw 'cause it's too hard to work at speed. Maybe I'm fingerin' it wrong. . . | ||

I have wide, sausage fingered meat hooks. The only gripe I have with the cramp busters is that they get hung on my hand for "spirited" riding. I hate grabbing brake and still having the throttle twisted a little. Not smooth. I have hack sawed mine down to try to decrease the issue. I think the cruisers have more grip to work with. | ||

The old Harley Police bikes I used to ride didn't have a throttle return spring - How's that for cruise control. | ||

i'm a big fan of the cramp-buster thing. when riding twistys etc. just rotate the "buster" about 3/4 turn around the grip so that the heel of your hand no longer hits it !then it's still easy to move it again when "super slabbing" it ! | ||

throttlemeister works awesome as a lock is nice looking and works as a bar end wieght as well.... very expensive though | ||

Vista Cruise works fine. I took a little tinkering to get set up though. (I would be more specific but that sector of memory must have been damaged.) I do remember having to machine that little groove off the plastic underneath the grip. I also machined a slightly different "bracket". | ||

It's no joke. No one in the world has ridden a Buell in more states than I have. That yields some valuable "real world" data. Like at 2AM when you are in the midst of having to leave Lexington and make an appointment in Boise, ID. All the goofy cruise control thingies bring some, albeit small, level of complexity. I found one night, in the wee hours, that the best cruise controls were 2 for $0.25. I bought, and I strongly suggested unlubricated, a couple rubbers in a gas station. Popped a hole in the business end and jammed it in the slot between the handlebar and the rotating grip. It was just enough to barely hold the grip and relieve the pressure from my wrist. It was easy to overcome if I needed to change the throttle or close it quickly. I've got crud that suppliers have sent me and I have one of those "throttle rocker" things still hanging in plastic after all these years. I have on my main weapon the old Sportster throttle lock as well and have become pretty skilled at setting it in just the right place. . . . I'm still wishing Trojan would package one lubbed and one non-lubbed in a package. But at least they were kind enough to send me the t-shirt . .

I had the Vista Cruise on my X1 and now have one on my ULY. Best $20 you'll ever spend. Install by trimming grip back from switch housing (before installing grip) and drilling a small hole in throttle lock and housing for a small bolt/nut to secure throttle lock.  | ||

Another Throttlemeister user here. I have them on both the 'Bolt and the Z1000. The Buell is a little tougher installation to get the tension on the grip just right, but worth it's weight in gold on the interstate. | ||

I have Traction grips and Napoleon barend mirrors. When I first installed the mirrors they contacted the rubber ends of the grips, creating an unwanted cruise control. I thought about leaving it, but thought it safer to readjust the mirrors. | ||

No one in the world has ridden a Buell in more states than I have. Actually I have. There were several times when the Buell was in a poor state. Several when I myself was in a poor state. Then there was the time I was in a drunken state....... Not to mention the time when I was in a drug induced state. Did I mention the time or two I just happened to be Stateside? If you don't want to lay out the scratch for throttlemeisters, you could always go with a set of normal bar end weights, and get a nice fat O-ring to sit between the grip and the bar end. A lot of sport-tourer types swear by the Caterpillar O-Ring Part # 8M 4991 |
