Hey y'all. Just got a brand new 07 XB12Ss Lighting Long. Aside from the first few rough starts it's been running great and a blast to ride. I've put about 200 miles on the new ride carefully following the break-in procedure. Then came yesterday. After riding home from work and parking said bike in the garage I noticed that oil was leaking from the back of the swingarm, dripping onto the exhaust tip, and leaving a nice brown/golden puddle on my floor. Checking the oil hoses didn't divulge the culprit so I guessed it might just be the drain plug, and perhaps oil on the swingarm was kicked up from the tire (Hell...who knows?). So, today I removed the plug/oil, installed a new O-ring, refilled with Harley Oil (yeah, I know what you're thinking) and went for a ride after warming her up. Guess what? She's still leaking oil. It appears that there is a small crack in the weld that goes right done the middle of the swingarm just in front of the rear tire. Luckily that warranty thing is still in play, but has anyone heard or experience the like? CURSES!!!! - delk |

Had to have mine replaced on my 06 XB12R after 7,000 miles. Sounds like the same location. New one hasn't leaked so far. I don't think it is a common problem. |

I have almost 2000 miles and not a single issue except I had to tighten up my kickstand pivot bolt, but that is just general service. |

13,000 miles on my 04 without a single drop of oil leaked yet. Kind of makes me wonder if it is really a Harley engine or not. Of course the 04 has a different swingarm than the 07. Maybe it is a quality control issue in the new shop that is making the swingarms in Italy (I think that is right). |

Didn't someone else have the same problem with a new swingarm several months back? Someone other than Tib? ~SM |

QUOTE: Ducxl -Chinese swingarms........'06 an later..Italian swingarms, '05 and earlier. Cheap Chinese crap UUMM, I believe you have it backwards All my Alu seems to be Brembo. I may be wrong here but isn't Brembo European? I have both 03 and 04 S models, and have never had a single drop of oil from either. Even got rear-ended on the 03 in the swingarm on the right side(long story)still NO leaks EVER. |

Ummm,no....first generation swingarms were sourced from Brembo in Italy. The second generation swingarms are sourced from China,i think a Japanese subsidiary of Enkei.'05& earlier=Italy..'06&later=China. |

Ducxl, Sorry, I must not be awake yet. I re-read your post and noticed that your years were correct. I transposed in my head Anyhoo, you can see the design change in the later models. |

Uly swingarms are not made in China; try Japan instead. They are made from a very advanced die casting technique that makes a superior swingarm to the earlier Italian-made ones. Buell looks all over the US and the world for the best part suppliers. |

I believe he was referring to the all the redesigned models, when the dipstick was moved and several other changes were made. This would apply to all 2006+ models. |

The leak on mine was coming from the weld in the middle of the swing arm on the tire side about half way up. Probably a pin hole in the weld. |

Tiburondriver47...that's EXACTLY where mine is leaking from too. I just wanted to thank everyone for the followup. The dealer told me to seal the leak with some silacone caulk so that I can ride it until the new swingarm shows up at the dealership. At least its covered under the warranty. |
