After a nice ride yesterday I rode into the back yard and parked the bike in front of the shed as I always do. I placed the side stand on a metal plate and dismounted but as I was walking away I heard the sound that sent a chill up my spine. As I quickly turned around I saw my baby hitting the ground  . Luckily it was just dirt and the only damage was a broken clutch lever, so much for the hand guards protecting the levers. So I guess my next task will be to search for the side stand mod I remember reading about and seeing if I can find a set of hand guards that will a actually protect the levers and my hands. On a side note, as I was walking out of the Texaco station yesterday near my house, I was surprised to see another XB12 parked next to mine. All I could think was what’s the chance of that. Unfortunately he is not a member of badweb. | ||

Unfortunately, the hand guards are hand guards. Not Clutch & brake lever guards. I must say though, that they work to protect your hands against car & truck mirrors and the chain link fence post in my yard. I still have all of my fingers. How did the bike fall off the sidestand? | ||

I do like the hand guards for wind and debris protection but I would like something that would also protect the levers. As far why it fell over, I'm not sure? All I can guess is I did not pull back on the bike to make sure the side stand was sat fully forward. Plus the fact that we were having very strong wind gusts that may have contributed to the tip over. | ||

So I guess my next task will be to search for the side stand mod I remember reading about and seeing if I can find a set of hand guards that will a actually protect the levers and my hands. I would like to see that mod for the sidestand, as I have no confidence at all in it the way it is. Hell, mine fell over 3 times in the first two weeks. Once off the stand, and twice at the hands of yours truly.  Acerbis makes a rally handguard that is easy to install and fits nice. | ||

My City X has fallen over a few times. If you are even on the slightest decline, not even perceivable, it can roll forward and fall. Aggravating it is. I really am careful now. The only other time was when I was crossing the yard and my short legs could not reach the ground because of a dip in the yard, I fell over with the bike. My beautiful wife was watching. I lost about 100 points on the cool factor with her. I fear I will never get them back. Be careful with your beloved bikes and the kickstands!! It is a chilling sound to hear the machine hit the ground. Greg | ||

Only my former Harley had a reliable side stand. I always put the Buell tranny in 1st gear when I park the bike. No worries. | ||

Only my former Harley had a reliable side stand. It's my understanding that Harley actually has a patent on the stand's locking mechanism. It's probably the most secure stand on the market and I would love to see Harley pass some of that patented love on to Erik and the team. The Buell's current stand sucks. Plain and simple. |
