I have an '07 XB12S and I wrecked it pretty bad and broke my leg about a month ago. I'm healing fine, and funny as it sounds, I just can't wait to get back on it. I laid it down in the road on the right side to avoid a car that pulled out in front of me.

Any case, the right foot peg was broken, the header was dented and scratched, the turn signal lens was broken and the mirror was broken. thats about it. I want to either fix or replace the exhaust, because I don't want that big ugly dent in it. I figured I might take it off and cut the old section out, then TIG in a patch, but I don't know if it will look good.

I have been checking out some aftermarket stuff and If I'm going to pay $200 for a factory header, why not just buy an aftermarket for a little more? I want to go ahead and get a new muffler too prolly, but not sure what I should get.

I want something with a very deep bass like sound, and low maintnence. I don't really care for having to repack it and stuff like that. As far as the headers, someone posted a pic on the "XB CUSTOM" topic that looked stainless or titanium. Those are awesome looking, although I know prolly very expensive.

Another big concern is wheteher or not I will have to re-map the bike or mess with the fuel injection. I hate to do that because the nearest service center is 200 miles from me. I guess thats the downside of owning a buell, hardly anybody works on them.

There's a ton of info on here about exhaust. A quick search should yeild some excellent results. Let's go through your list...

Patching the stock header is going to look like crap. End of story.

The nice looking exhausts you saw are probably either a Micron or a TiForce. The Micron is the cheaper of the two and comes in at $800 (includes a muffler, which you have to use). I'm not sure on the TiForce as you get them in Titanium or stainless, but I think they're at least $1200???

You can get stock-styled Areo headers that are a bigger diameter that will accept stock mufflers or any aftermarket muffler designed to be used with the stock header. These go for around $700 i believe (no muffler).

As far as mufflers go, you can spend $200 on a Jardine that you have to repack and it will still blow apart (from what I've read), to $600 on a D&D. Personally, I'm going with a Special O.P.S. for $250. Best bang for the buck IMO. They all have thier unique sounds. For a breakdown of all of them, go to American Sport Bike and click on the link for the exhuast shootout. Lots of good reading, pictures and sound clips.

Also - check eBay for that header - I'm sure they're less than $200 on there.

Glad to hear that you are on the mend. As Mark mentioned, American Sport Bike has the most complete dyno comparo that I am aware of. Al also sells Direct-Link maps for your stock ECM to go with most of those systems.

American Sport Bike, the way to go no holds barred.

The best deal is the Micron/Direct link deal. Send him your ECM, he remaps it to match the micron, or any of 1/2 a dozen other pipes, sends it back to you ready to plug and go after installing the pipe of your choice.

SMOOTH operation, if you have some mechanical skills to rotate the motor (for the Micron) or installation of a slip on. But if you want to swap the header, I would go all the way with a Micron system, and be done with it.

special ops and remap from american sportbike. just did that to my xb12x, and it sounds/runs great. get well soon.

How much for the remapping of the ECM? Did you need to do a TPS reset when you got it back? Thanks.

I just did a micron / direct link / open air box / breather reroute / servo emulator last weekend. Rotating the engine is pretty simple, I goofed around with the laptop longer than it took to get the engine down and back up ( didn't take the idler loose, there was enough room to get the header nuts loose ). Since you have to do a TPS Reset, you might as well the the Direct Link software and flash the map into the ECM yourself as well as have the diagnostic tools close by.
Get yourself a quality 1/4" drive T-27 socket, it's probably the most used tool on the bike.

$349 for the remap, and Al sends you the "key" to your ecm so that anyone can direct link to it. tps reset is not a must do, but is on my to-do list.
