Anyone tried them? Are they better than the silver stars? Personally, I tried the Silver stars and they don't seem to be that much better than stock. All of my boys ride Huyabusas' and their lights shine brighter on the pavement than mine, similar to that of a car. My Blast actually puts out more light. This bike scares me at night. How come these lights haven't been updated by now? Is Buell really listening to us? Do they test these bikes at night? Anyone feel my pain? | ||

There are more than a few people who have done HID conversions on Firebolts. I'm going to see how mine is at night before I decide, but I'm pretty much convinced I'll need to do it. There's a really good step-by-step thread that someone posted from another site - I'm sure they'll chime in here soon. | ||

I've done the HID conversion. The problem is that the main problem isn't just the bulb. It's the reflector. Unless you address the reflector issue, the bulb isn't going to help much. | ||

I am not a big blue light fan and have settled on the 3000-3250k yellow/white color over the 5000-6000k white/blue offerings. I did install some 65w H9 burners in my H7 lights on my Uly. They did help. You can check them out here: http://www.rallylights.com/hella/H7.asp | ||

Unless you address the reflector issue, the bulb isn't going to help much. Ft bstrd are you saying that the whole housing unit, lens and all needs to be replaced? If so, with what? | ||

I have had no issue with the Lightning reflectors. The R models have had a systemic problem with the reflective surface delaminating and flaking off. Some have sprayed chrome paint on them to replace the coating. Others have replaced the reflector itself. I have had no such issues with my Uly reflectors. I also don't have any problems with the pattern. Treads did leading him to go with the "red eye" option. The HID conversion was fairly simple and required no additional fabrication, so I went that route. I don't think it will fully solve the problem with an R model. The HID capsule does generate less heat, so it should help to reduce the rate of delamination of the reflective coating. | ||

Just convinced that nobody is testing these bikes out in the wild wooley, off grid rural roads. The lights are abyssmal. I get more off of my 6 dollar tool kit light. | ||

I know when mine start to get lousy, I'm going to try coating the felectors with something other than chrome paint. I'm going to try either lining them with a heavy duty aluminum foil or cut out each facet out of aluminum or stainless sheet and polishing it. I think the foil will work just fine. In highschool we made some parabolic refecltors that work really with aluminnm foil surfaces. Rub it with a tissue and it comes to a nice luster. | ||

Just coated the inside of the reflector with reynolds aluminum foil and my lights have never been brighter. In fact the foil works better than the metalic coating that fades inside of the reflector beam. They now light up the road like never before. Thanks for the tip. | ||

I used only a small amount of clear duck tape to secure to the wall of the housing. I didn't think of the heat issue with the tape. I'll probably remove it today and use some sort of glue. Any ideas? | ||

High temp glue gun? or maybe a little dab of some epoxy. | ||

there is a alum. tape out there , it's used on ductwork,(a/c) and inside refrigerators! it's thick alum. with this really badass adhesive on it ! should work nicely .(go to local HVAC supplier) | ||

Would lining the housing with Al foil be smooth enough to be used as a reflective background for headlights? | ||

There are definitely some wrinkles in the foil because it is so delicate, but the lighting is still better than stock. | ||

If you see my post at the beginning I don`t think it having to be smooth wd. make a difference..IT may help to reflect MORE light being crinkle abit.. I don`t know for sure..BUT wd. be good to give it a shot and let us know how it is...! |
