I guess I must now adopt the ideology of many badwebbers of doing it myself. Just got my bike back from the local dealer to replace a clutch cable. Since this was a relatively inexpensive repair I asked that they change out the fluids, oil/trans. When I got the bike home I noticed that he did not change the filter. How do I know that he changed the oil at all? Should I complain, or just let it pass and do this simple but important task myself from now on? What recourse should I have taken? What would you do? |

I would buy the service manual, and the proper equipment to do the servicing myself. A small investment for peace of mind, building a more intimate relationship with the bike, as well as possibly saving you money down the road. Call the dealer, talk to the tech, politely ask if he did indeed change everything you requested. If you are satisfied with his response, continue to take it there... or do the above. |

When I got the bike home I noticed that he did not change the filter. Sacrilege! Especially on a Buell, which has the oil filter not only readily accessible, but in the correct orientation (pointing down so you a) don't spill oil when removing it, and b) can fill the new filter with fresh oil before installation). As Brine says above, doing it yourself helps develop a "relationship" with the machine--and there is certainly a certain satisfaction from doing even basic maintenance like oil changes, and knowing it's done right.} (Message edited by Kootenay on February 04, 2007) |

Become one with your machine and do your own repairs. It's not that hard with a shop manual. |

Snackbar: Is it possible that they took you literally when you asked them to change out the fluids? Some people (not I) still have the habit of changing filters every other oil change. Dave |

you gotta watch out... some of those harley techs can't figure out how to get the chin fairing off to get to the filter, ya know?
