I use one from the Uly with the extended screen. I had to drill a few holes in the Uly to get it to match the mounting slots in the Lightning. Works better then anything else I've tried. | ||

Let's try this again. I just installed the 4" taller Zero Gravity windscreen that I got from American Sport Bike.  It's been pretty cold around here so I haven't had a chance to ride with it yet but the fit and finish are great.  Installation is a breeze and I like the way it looks. | ||

I have a Laminar Lip too. The only thing I don't like about it is it doesn't come of the 3M fasteners clean and you have to replace them when it comes time to clean. I don't want to mount it permanently, so I have to deal with that problem. Otherwise, I love it. | ||

I installed the Uly flyscreen/windshield. It works great and there is a taller windshield available if I want it. They go on and off in seconds.  | ||

I've had my Laminar Lip to 130 MPH with no problems. Initially it was rubbing on the center protrusion on the carbon flyscreen, but I added a small rubber bumper from Home Depot. It does alsop seem to make the bike more aerodynamic at speed & the wind blast is not as severe. The 3M locking disks work great & allow you to remove the lip & replace it repetitively without any problem. | ||

laminar lip works very well , i'm 5-10" and the wind blast hits me right at shoulder level ,helmet in clean air. the 3-m thingies work great -- i use a small screwdriver to get the separation process started on each thingie (insert blade & twist) | ||

+1 for the laminar lip. I will have to say I had to lower mine down to keep my helmet in clean air (much quieter that way) Some where around here there is a LONG thread on the laminar lip The 3m velcro disks are easily available at radioshack. | ||

Ejiii, Wow, congrats on the ulysses front and flyscreen install. I wanted to do the same but when i compared at the dealer i didn't think it would fit on a lightning without some modification. how did it work for you?? | ||

Shorediary, It takes about 15-30mins to install. I laid the stock flyscreen on the backside of the Uly screen. Marked and drilled the holes then installed it using the 4 stock bolts and plastic washers. The Uly mounting holes remain so since I knew I was going to Line-X it I just filled them with body filler and Line-Xed away. It works great. E. J. | ||

I also installed the Uly screen and it works great. I used to get a lot of buffeting in traffic and at high speeds with the stock screen that this eliminated. I also find that my arms are no longer stretched on long freeway runs. Got everything from DaveS. I did not Line-X mine and plan to just fill the four stock mounting holes with button head screws. One drawback is that the Uly does not come in the color of my Ss so I got black. I would guess that someone will make the lower half from CF soon but you'll have to be careful as the mounting bracket curve is not quite the same. | ||

Count me in as another satisfied Laminar Lip user. I commute every day 60 miles on I-90. The lip helped out tremendously. I'm 5'10" and the wind hits the top of my shoulders and my full face helmet instead of my chest now that I used the lip. Used is all summer with no problems. Kinda pricey for a piece of windshield plastic but it does what it says it does. | ||

What Ejiii said... I used his instructions and mated the stock screen as best I could and scribed the hole locations on the back of the lower fairing. Just take the old screen off and place the Uly lower on and get a feel for height of one set of holes. It wasn't an obvious placement but I spent a minute or two making it look right to my eye and marked the lower hole centerline on one side then used the stock as a template centering it the best I could. I think I used a 1/4" bit (a loose clearance so it doesn't have to be perfect). The plastic is soft so back it on wood and give pressure right through, no worries on cracks like with plexi. As for parts, DaveS hooked me up when I described what I wanted to do from my description despite not having seen what it looked like, he's pretty up on stuff. Basically it is an upper clear windscreen(two heights to choose from, I used stock), a lower fairing, 4 bushings, 4 plugs (the bushings and plugs snap together to hold the screen on the fairing with a space so it is dual plane-like), and I got new stock mounting screws just in case. Something just over $100 I think. The Uly holes are larger diameter and the button head if I tapped for that would be pretty big so I'm still thinking as I don't really want to coat it. The Ulysses emblem pulls right off. I also bought some weatherstripping foam with adhesive and filled in the area between the fairing and the gauges; it is not as stiff as the stock filler you'll see on your removed fairing but it seems to be fine. Use removable Loctite on the mounting screws because you want to tighten them snug against the plastic but not cinch them down and deform the fairing plastic. It is a nice option because it is wider as well as taller than a stock S/Ss screen and not too expensive. It doesn't give any wind protection for the hands but makes what I think is a nice bubble for comfy highway cruising. I originally figured I'd want the taller screen but I like it as is. I won't be home for a couple of days to upload a couple of pics, my profile pic is from the day I got the bike right now. I might even have an e-mail from DaveS as to parts needed I can forward. | ||

Thanks Mikemax, Was talking to Dave thanks for the info Buddy so the stock height you got works on the highway say around 75 mph or so, You notice it does block the wind of your chest , much better than the stock xb S one as that does nothing at all..Thanks again!!! | ||

I've installed and used the 4" taller ZG piece and it's great. Moved the wind buffeting up to a high enough speed that I could run 138 and not feel like I had a death grip in the least. Before that it was about 115. | ||

Hey M1Combat, is that 4 or 4.5 inches I see one offered as 4.5 probably same as what you are talking about, This is the other one I was thinking about, So ya like it takes the wind off ya at 75 or 85 mphs. off your chest etc. Thanks Buddy?? | ||

not really a taller wind shield persay... but I have ordered the Acerbis alien lights fly screen for off road. I am going to mount it in the stock location and mount the valencia orange Buell piece over the top. This will give me more off road lighting and a lil taller windscreen. I will post pics when it is done. Busy big builds this winter, drained the money away for a deposit off the TT |
